About This Pub

Ah, the White Swan – it's one of those classic London pubs that's been around since 1759, tucked away on Vauxhall Bridge Road, and it's got that timeless charm that draws you in. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks really appreciate the handy location, just a stone's throw from the Thames and some top attractions, making it ideal for a relaxed afternoon or evening out. The food's a highlight for many, with rave reviews for the fish and chips, pies, and even the toffee pudding – it's proper British fare that's comforting and tasty when it's on form. Plus, being dog-friendly and having outdoor space adds to the appeal, especially on a nice day, and the quick service means you won't be waiting ages for your round. But, fair's fair, it's not all roses; there've been grumbles about the Sunday roast not living up to expectations, with tough meat and blunt knives leaving a sour taste. Still, with a solid 4.3 rating overall, it's clear the good days far outnumber the bad, and it's a reliable choice for live sport or a casual meet-up. If you're heading that way, I'd say give it a go – just keep an eye on what you order, and you might just find your new favourite local haunt.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location is spot on, right in Pimlico near the Thames, Tate Britain, and Westminster – perfect for a post-walk pint or a bite after sightseeing.
  • They serve up some cracking traditional British pub food, like delicious fish and chips, meat pies, and a solid Sunday roast that's hit the mark for many.
  • Service is generally quick and friendly, which makes popping in for a drink or meal feel effortless and enjoyable.
  • It's dog-friendly and wheelchair accessible, so it's welcoming for everyone, and there's a nice garden or outside area to enjoy on a sunny day.
  • With live sport, regular entertainment, and a bookable function space upstairs, it's a great spot for catching up with mates or hosting a small gathering.
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; one experience had tough beef in the Sunday roast that was a real letdown, making it hard to enjoy.
  • It might get a bit lively on weekends or during events like games, though it's not overly crowded, it could feel busier than you'd like at times.
  • While the drinks are classic and well-kept, there might not be anything super unique on offer to make it stand out from other local pubs.

Loved this place! We had the fish and chips and meat pies on mash. They were all delicious and served quickly. We finished off with toffee pudding which was really good. We would definitely go here again

Nice pub very spacious, with most of the classic beers, and classic pub food. The service is quick, and the quality of drinks is great. It's not super crowded, mostly over weekend and games (but nothing crazy). Also, it's dog friendly which is great!

I was so disappointed with the Sunday roast. Beef was tough as old boots and I had a blunt knife to cut it with. When I tried chewing it with like rubber. After 3 attempts, I gave up and spat it out on the plate. Vegetables were ok but that’s all I can say about it. Staff served me very quickly and very hospitable.

Well, on a busy Sunday afternoon the London Marathon, the service was outstanding. They all worked so hard, and were friendly going about it! The pub food was above average, with a pleasant presentation and all the good qualities. The pie sampler was a treat, with the steak and mash potato a cut above the chicken. Truffle fries were very tasty, and the sticky toffee pudding was amazing. Atmosphere is a pub which is what we were looking for. Great pub!

We walked to the White Swan from our hotel and are happy we did. Quite lively. Good selection of local beer and a very good menu. We had the fish and chips and venison and red wine gravy pie.
