About This Pub
Ah, The Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in the heart of London. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with that warm, cosy atmosphere that's hard to beat, especially on a chilly evening. The staff, particularly Evelina, are an absolute delight; they're so attentive and friendly, always making sure your glass is topped up without you even asking. The food's another highlight – those homemade pub classics like sausage rolls or fish and chips are spot on, full of flavour and just what you fancy after a long day. And the drinks? Well, they've got a brilliant range, from cracking local ales to refreshing cocktails, so there's something for everyone whether you're in for a quick pint or a full night out. On the flip side, it's a tad frustrating that they're shut on Sundays, which might throw a spanner in the works for weekend plans, and the prices are on the moderate side, so it could get pricey if you're not careful. Still, overall, it's a solid spot that does the British pub thing really well – I'd say it's worth popping in for a visit, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe avoid peak times if you prefer a quieter chat.

Cons
-
It's closed on Sundays, which is a bit of a shame if you're looking for a weekend wind-down.
-
With a moderate price tag, things can add up quickly if you're settling in for the evening, so keep an eye on the tab.
-
While the reviews are glowing, the overall rating sits at 4.1, suggesting it might not hit the mark for everyone on busier days.

🚇 Pimlico
🍺 £6.30 Mahou
The Royal Oak is located at the southern end of Westminster close to the much loved Regency Cafe and the architecturally unique Grosvenor Estate, Channel 4 HQ is also close by. The nearest Tube is Pimlico.
This pub was established in 1831 and rebuilt in 1872. This pub is built in a unique shape which is governed by the road layout around pub. The pub was saved from demolition following a campaign by local residents.
This is a small one bar pub which is set out in an “L” shape. The servery is traditional and illuminated by modern pendants, the back bar is simple but stylish. The seating is mostly high level with a couple of banquettes to perch on. The pub is bright and airy as there are windows on three sides. A nice feature is a wall covered in pop and rock album covers featuring artists from The Happy Mondays to Adele.
The beer choice offers a selection of familiar brews, continental lagers, Camden’s Stout which was new and two cask ales. I opted for a pint of Mahou, my pint was great, price point was a tad above average. The food menu consists of comfort food options and pub classics, Fish & Chips costs £17.
I arrived around 4pm on a showery Thursday afternoon in March. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed with two separate groups and a few solo imbiber’s in attendance. This pub does get very busy with an afterwork crowd from the nearby offices. The service was pleasant, the team member who served me was welcoming and courteous.
Visiting The Royal Oak was a pleasant experience, this pub is worth a look if you’re in the area.
