About This Pub
Ah, the White Heifer That Travelled – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in Darlington with that welcoming farmhouse charm. I've got to say, what really stands out is how the staff go out of their way to make you feel at ease; they're chatty and attentive, which makes for a lovely visit, especially if you're popping in with the family or for a catch-up. The food's another winner – their pub classics like burgers and pies are spot on, and with deals like 30% off mains, it's a bargain that keeps you coming back. Plus, the outdoor seating is brilliant on a sunny day, and if you're into sports, there are plenty of screens to catch the action. On the flip side, though, it's not perfect; the atmosphere can sometimes fall a bit flat, feeling a tad dull when it's not busy, and a few folks have mentioned the food lacking that extra punch of flavour. Service-wise, it's generally good but can vary, so you might have an average experience now and then. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening – worth a visit if you're in the area, just keep in mind it shines brightest when it's got a bit of energy to it.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are always so friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
The food is a real highlight – think delicious pub classics like burgers and pies that hit the spot, especially with those tempting offers like 30% off mains.
-
It's a fantastic spot for families or catching up with mates, with a cosy, farmhouse-style vibe and plenty of outdoor seating for when the sun's out.
-
Great for sports fans too, with loads of TVs showing live action, and it's reasonably priced so you won't break the bank.
-
The atmosphere can be just right when it's buzzing, perfect for a quieter drink or a relaxed meal without feeling overcrowded.
Cons
-
The atmosphere isn't always lively; it can feel a bit dull on quieter days, which might not suit everyone looking for a vibrant night out.
-
Some of the food dishes don't quite deliver on flavour – it's solid but not always as exciting as you'd hope, leaving a bit to be desired.
-
Service can be hit or miss; while it's often spot on, there are times when it's just okay rather than outstanding.
-
Being out in Darlington, it might not be the easiest spot to get to if you're not local, though it's handy near the A1(M).

Nice pleasent place to have a quiet drink, and a meal if you want, we, the bros and I have enjoyed some good times here.
The customer service was ok.
The atmosphere, though quite a few in seemed dull.
The food was better. I had the katsu chicken burger with skin chips ,which came with a drink - burger Tuesday, £11.75; and my partner had fish & chips. £7.95
I tried the Hobgoblin gold and was mild and very nice.
Wheelchair accessible and toilets.

On first impressions it was a nice and aesthetically pleasing place, spacious and plenty of TVs to watch the sports if that's what you want. The service was very good, and very pleasant and kind staff. The food though left something to be desired, it wasn't terrible but it didn't pop with much flavour, I did still enjoy my meal though. I had the ultimate ribs and chicken platter and my partner had the hunters chicken. The hunters chicken was disappointing it was just a chicken breast and dry, it didn't seem to have on it what was described on the menu. We had a 30% discount on the main meal which made the price not bad for what we got. Without that I am not sure I would say the price was entirely worth it.
Have eaten meals here several times recently and have been very impressed. The food is delicious, they go out of their way to accommodate our autistic son's specific requirements and they are always very friendly. Nicola in particular went above and beyond today and made my son's birthday meal his favourite meal out yet! Definitely coming back.
Perfect for a quieter drink or meal
Always busy enough to have an atmosphere without being uncomfortably packed!
Staff are pleasant, food is nice, reasonably priced.
Just a shame I live the complete opposite end of the town!
