About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Burtree Inn – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? Tucked into the heart of County Durham's countryside, it's got this inviting, family-run warmth that makes you feel right at home from the moment you step in. The food is where it really shines; think traditional fayre with locally-sourced ingredients that pack a punch, from their renowned Sunday lunches to big, satisfying portions that'll leave you stuffed and smiling. And the staff? They're an absolute delight, always cheerful and on top of things, especially if you've got any special requests like gluten-free options – it's that kind of thoughtful touch that sets it apart. Plus, with the beer garden open, it's brilliant for a sunny day pint or al fresco dining. On the flip side, though, parking can be a bit of a faff when it gets lively, so it's worth getting there early to avoid the hassle. And watch out for those special menus not being on offer during bank holidays or romantic evenings – it might cramp your plans a tad. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal or family catch-up, with enough positives to keep you coming back, but just a couple of niggles to keep in mind.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with hearty, home-cooked dishes made from locally-sourced ingredients that really hit the spot.
  • Service is top-notch – friendly, efficient staff who go the extra mile, especially for things like dietary needs, making everyone feel well looked after.
  • It's a proper family-friendly spot with a welcoming atmosphere, great for gatherings or just a relaxed meal, and they've got a lovely beer garden for enjoying the outdoors.
  • Portions are generous and the prices are reasonable, giving you brilliant value without breaking the bank.
  • Tucked away in the countryside near Darlington, it's conveniently located and has a warm, traditional vibe that makes you want to come back for more.
Cons
  • Parking can be a right nuisance when it's busy, so you might end up circling a bit or walking from further away.
  • Some of the special offers and menus aren't available on bank holidays or certain days like Valentine's, which could be a letdown if you're planning something specific.

We went as a 3 generation family party for a birthday. The service is excellent - really quick, cheerful and 100% efficient. An example is the care given to ordering for a gluten free (Coeliac) grandson - details were written onto the kitchen order, double underlined and very clear. The food was excellent. Piping hot, well cooked and obviously using high quality ingredients. If you like a good meal and lovely service, this is one for you!

A family regular for big birthdays, great food, staff always friendly and long term owners, clean and tidy. Last visit of 10 people, ordered up front at the request of the owner to make sure the food was available and food was all ready on arrival at the same time.

Excellent place for Sunday dinner, parking can be a problem when busy. My photo is the superb Beef & Pork belly buster 😋

This place is a hidden gem, everywhere stopped serving food early on Sunday and we was running out of hope… but then… we found this place… Glowing in the sunset! The only one still going and busy! Venue was nice and staff were so kind! Very helpful on the food selections. Portion sizes is AMAZING for value. We would 1000% recommend coming here if you’re near by! Proper homemade food, absolutely belting!

We were away for the weekend and had a lovely meal here , so much so we came back the next night . Food is absolutely delicious home cooked and large portions too , staff were all very friendly and helpful , very clean , great atmosphere and not too expensive. We will be returning in August when we stay that way again , just wish you were closer to our home so we could come more often , although it probably won't be good for my waistline 🤣
