About This Pub
Ah, the Travellers Rest – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a hidden gem in Darlington, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this fantastic jazz scene going on with monthly gigs that draw in some seriously talented musicians, making it a brilliant spot if you're into live music. The beers are a real highlight too; those Ossett ales are spot on and always served just right, which is music to my ears for a good evening. Plus, there's this lovely Thai kitchen attached, dishing out tasty meals with such welcoming staff that it adds a nice touch to the whole experience. The atmosphere sounds proper cosy, with a mix of areas for chatting or catching the sport on TV, and that jukebox keeps things entertaining. On the flip side, it's a bit of a pity that there's no online buzz – no website means you might have to rely on word of mouth or a quick visit to see what's on, and with things seeming a tad quiet lately due to fewer recent reviews, it could be hit or miss if you're hoping for a lively crowd every time. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a laid-back get-together, and I'd say it's worth checking out for that authentic pub feel, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The jazz nights are absolutely brilliant – monthly gigs with top-class musicians that really make for a lively atmosphere.
-
They've got an excellent selection of Ossett beers, always well-kept and served with a smile, perfect for a proper pint.
-
There's a lovely Thai kitchen in the same building, offering delicious food that's great for eating in or taking away, with such friendly staff to boot.
-
The pub has a welcoming vibe with a mix of bar and lounge areas, plus sports on the telly and a well-appreciated jukebox for some added fun.
-
It's got that classic 1930s roadhouse charm, making it feel like a proper local spot where everyone enjoys themselves.
Cons
-
It's a shame there's no website or online presence, which makes it harder to keep up with events or opening times without popping in.
-
With no recent reviews in the last six months, it might not be as buzzing as it once was, so things could feel a bit quiet at times.
-
The food options seem limited to the Thai kitchen, so if you're after a wider variety of pub grub, you might find it lacking.

Great place for Jazz, monthly gigs with top class musicians. Opus 4 jazz club.
Good bar with excellent Ossett beers. The real find, though, is the Andaman Home Kitchen in the same building which is great. Eat in or takeaway. Lovely Thai food and such nice staff.
Excellent, very local pub, in a very 30s roadhouse style. Lots of sport on TV, well appreciated juke box in the bar. Bar and separate lounge area. Two very good ales from Osset brewery, well kept and served.
Great crowd... Great staff... and of course just the perfect place to be at the weekend! Every time we visit, we both feel as if we've never left Darlington. So, we just wanna say, thanks guys! Can't wait to see you again! Cheers!🍻🇨🇦🍻
Just attended the most fabulous jazz night at the Travellers Rest. Jazz night is once a month and the music and variety of jazz musicians is excellent. It is well worth a visit.
