About This Pub
Ah, Weavers Bocking – it's one of those places that feels like a lovely secret in the heart of Braintree, tucked away on Church Street. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, the food is a real standout; think stunning British a la carte options and homemade cakes for afternoon tea, all made with local ingredients that make every bite feel fresh and authentic. The staff come across as genuinely caring, like they're hosting you in their own home, which adds such a nice touch to the experience. It's brilliant for groups or events too, with private rooms available for weddings or birthdays, and they've got a good range of choices for vegetarians, which is always a plus when you're planning a get-together. On the flip side, though, there have been a few grumbles about service not being quite spot-on every time – some have said courses come out too quickly or plates get whisked away before you're done, which can throw off the enjoyment a bit. Then there's that automatic service charge and the higher prices on drinks, which might make you think twice if you're just popping in for a quick one. Overall, with a solid 4.6 rating from folks who've been there, it's worth a visit if you're in the area, especially for a proper sit-down meal, but maybe keep an eye on the timing and budget to avoid any surprises. I'd say it's a solid choice for a memorable night out, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely superb – fresh, locally sourced British dishes that really hit the spot, especially their Sunday roasts and afternoon teas.
-
The staff are warm and welcoming, going out of their way to make your visit memorable, just like chatting with friendly locals.
-
It's a great spot for special occasions, with options for private dining or events in a cosy, comfortable setting.
-
Plenty of vegetarian choices and reasonable prices on the menu make it accessible for all sorts of groups.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit hit or miss at times, like when they clear plates too quickly or rush the courses, which might spoil the flow of your meal.
-
That 10% service charge adds up unexpectedly, and the drinks are on the pricey side, so it might not be the best for a casual pint.
-
Opening hours are limited, mainly midweek evenings and weekends, so it's not ideal if you're after a spontaneous visit.
-
A few folks have mentioned the food not always looking its best on arrival, which is a shame given how tasty it is.

This is the first time we have visited Weavers Restaurant for some time. We booked a table for 4, on Saturday 11th of January. All 4 of us had different meals and everyone was very satisfied with what they had. Nowadays it is nice to have food served on a hot plate. Shelley and the new young member of staff treated us all very well. We will be visiting again.
What a find!! The food was delicious, the staff amazing and the restaurant lovely. Will be returning. Highly recommend.
After having a lovely meal the month before, we decided to come again for our friend's birthday. The starters were lovely but the waitress cleared our plates before one of our friends had finished. Our mains were bought out immediately with no wait in between courses and the food looked like it had been thrown on the plates. Don't spoil your good reputation Weavers!
We just had a lovely meal here with a group of friends. Lot's of vegetarian options, prices reasonable, and the food was very good. Shame about the 10% service charge, and the drinks were not cheap, but otherwise the environment was new, clean and modern. the atmosphere is very good and welcoming. I would definitely return.
We came here on a last minute hunt to find a Sunday roast with family without much expectations.
However when entering its a lovely set up and we were greeted by Lee and Alison who looked after us for the meal who just to begin were absolutely brilliant, they really care about the customers and make this place extra special.
Now for the food you can get a 2 or 3 course meal so everybody made various selections but all had starters.
Most went for the Aarancina which isn't your usual starter with a Sunday roast but for here it packs alot of flavour and is a great way to start the meal.
They have a great selection of alcoholic beverages I went for a simple beer.
For the main roasts we had a variety of meats I wanted the pork but sadly they had no crackling which was half the reason for ordering but if I am being honest after eating the meal it wasn't missed out the meat was tasty full of flavour but the sides were the key.
The roast potatoes were of a top level usually when you eat out they are never as good as eating at home, the Yorkshire were huge and tasty, gravy brilliant with plenty to go around and lots of veg and cauliflower cheese on the side.
Honestly this was excellent a really good roast probably the best I have ever ate in a resteraunt.
Some of the others had the lamb shank which was huge and had great feedback but the beef was great and so was everything else.
So yes check it out eat in and eat some great food in a nice setting with absolutely brilliant service you won't be disappointed.
