About This Pub
Ah, the War Horse in Buckshaw Village – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and the website, it's got this warm, inviting vibe that's perfect for a relaxed get-together with mates or even a family meal. The staff really shine through; they're described as friendly and on point, sorting out any hiccups with a smile, which makes the whole experience feel personal and welcoming. And the food? Well, it's a winner for the price – think hearty, tasty options that won't break the bank, especially with those weekday deals that let you feast for a tenner. Plus, if you're into sports, it's an ace spot to catch live matches on the big screens. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect; a couple of folks have mentioned food arriving cold, which is a shame and could leave you a bit disappointed if it happens. Service might vary a tad, so it's worth being prepared for that. All in all, I'd say it's a solid pick for a casual night out – just go in with realistic expectations, and you're in for a good time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant, always friendly and quick to fix any little mix-ups, making you feel right at home.
-
The food is spot on – tasty dishes at great value, especially with deals like tucking into selected meals for just a tenner on weekdays.
-
It's a clean and welcoming spot, perfect for families with outdoor play areas and plenty of free parking nearby.
-
A top choice for sports fans, with Sky Sports and TNT Sports showing live games, so you can catch all the action in a lively atmosphere.
Cons
-
There have been a few instances where the food arrived cold, which can put a dampener on things if it happens to you.
-
Service can be hit or miss at times, as one person mentioned not getting the best response when raising an issue, so it might not always be seamless.

Fantastic service from start to finish. Friendly staff- had a mix up with one of orders- it happens!- but dealt with really well by staff. Food was fantastic- really tasty- 6 different plates ordered. Will absolutely be returning in the near future.
Lovely looking and clean pub,
Glad they're open for breakfast now!
Can't beat starting a day with Steak and Eggs! Cheers Mark the Chef and great service from Ainsley! I would have added a photo... but the food went down to quick.
Had the pleasure of being served by Kira for Saturday lunch. What a delight, an exceptional high quality customer focused young lady with a warm welcoming personality with natural passion and integrity for exceeding expectations. It was obvious that the locals felt the same. The food was of exceptional standard and good value for money with a wide ranging menu. Definitely star service
Four Adults and three kids, all ate with drinks for £76.00. The War Horse was very clean and the staff very helpful. Plenty of free parking around the back. A very calm atmosphere and we will call back next time we are in the area. Next door is a KFC and a Harvester, with an Aldi fifty yards away. Five minutes off the M61.
The food was cold. When I told the waiter who walked past our table, I told him that the food was cold. He then said that they are happy to make me a fresh plate of food and took the plate of cold food away. I said that could you please ask the cook to make a fresh plate of food and then take the cold food away.. he still took the cold food away and said we never re-cook or re-heat any food that has been out. Anyway within 3 minutes later the food came out and can clearly see that the food was re-heated and burnt. I also said will we get fresh fries as these were cold with other dish and the waiter said he had to go to serve someone else and never got back to me to solve my issue with the food. The salad had no cucumber, tomatoes and red onions just some leaves. The menu states that you get garlic ciabatta slices but instead you get garlic French bread slices and there were no BBQ sauce and mayonnaise given. As you can see from the photos, the re-heated food were burnt
