About This Pub
You know, when I popped into Walcot House, it really hit the spot for a proper night out – the food is just brilliant, with simple yet exceptional British dishes made from the best seasonal ingredients, like hand-rolled pasta and home-baked bread that leave you wanting more. The drinks menu is a real treat too, packed with interesting wines and expertly crafted cocktails that make it easy to while away an evening. The staff are genuinely lovely, always on hand with a smile and that attentive service that makes everything feel effortless. It's got this sophisticated but relaxed vibe, perfect for a casual meet-up or something a bit more special like private dining. On the downside, it does get packed, especially during meal times, and that can mean a bit of a wait for your order, as I heard from someone who had to hang on for their roast. Plus, with it being a bit on the expensive side, it's not ideal for everyday visits – you'd probably want to plan it for a treat. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after quality and a good atmosphere, but just keep in mind those little niggles to manage your expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch, with fresh, high-quality British ingredients like dry-aged beef and sustainable seafood, making every meal feel special.
-
They've got a cracking selection of wines and cocktails – their house-blend Shiraz and martinis are spot on, and they reckon they've got the best Guinness in Bath.
-
The staff are so welcoming and attentive, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
-
It's a versatile spot with great options for private dining or groups, plus fun events like Sunday Suppers with discounts.
-
The overall vibe is sophisticated yet cosy, ideal for a leisurely catch-up over good grub and drinks.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy, which sometimes means a wait for your food or a table, as one chap mentioned with his Sunday roast.
-
Being on the pricier side, it might stretch the budget a bit, so it's perhaps best saved for when you're splashing out.
-
While the atmosphere is lovely, the longer opening hours on weekends could lead to it feeling a tad crowded at peak times.

As I sit here in a drunken stupor, contemplating turning 40 I reminisce over what can only be described as one of the highlights of my entire life. The perfect end to a perfect week. Although it is only Wednesday, and I do have another 2 days of boating ahead of me. But I digress.
The food is incredible. Without a doubt the best steak I have had. And I have had many steaks. Mostly 2 a day for the last 10 months. Serious amazing meat. The sides were sick. Who the fuck cooks cabbage like that?! It was banging. The drinks, the wine, the cocktails. All on point. And finally the service. I can’t explain how cool this team is. They were all awesome their own way. Knowledgable about the menu, able to give the best recommendations. Attentive, but kept their space, allowing us intimacy
we wanted.
I want so say so much more, but I’m drunk, coz the drinks were banging, did I say that already?! So I feel like I’m rambling. Anyway. Go to here. Eat the food. Drink the drinks. Chat to the staff. You won’t regret it.
Peace and love.
Lovely restaurant located on Walcot Street, a short stroll from the city centre.
I had the full English breakfast, which was lovely, well cooked with quality ingredients, and well presented.
Did get quite busy, but there was a nice atmosphere.
It's probably one of the best full English breakfasts in Bath.
Service was fine, although if we had been asked if we wanted anything else, we would probably have had more drinks.
We went on a Tuesday morning, I sm sure at times it gets very busy
Fabulous place to eat and the staff are very pleasant and welcoming. It was a really relaxing time. The food was top-notch with tomato with a touch of garlic flavour and some chilli powder. The mushrooms also had some flavouring on them, and the sausages and bacon were a quality product. You could definitely taste the difference in the quality of the food. I really enjoyed the breakfast until it came to paying the bill, which included a discretionary service charge because there was a large party of us. we split the bill, including the 12.5% discretionary service charge, and it turned out we were £2.30 out as we just wanted to make it simple to give an amout per person. This was slightly mared by a waitress who had not served us asking us to pay the difference as if we had not paid the bill until I pointed out this was discretionary. It took about 10 seconds for the penny to drop, and then she said it was alright. Funny that they put discretionary but can't work a discretionary tip out. When we left, all the other staff were just as great and wishing us all a good day.
A really nice pub almost perfect Sunday roast except the long wait for the food around 40 mins. The interior design is relaxing and makes it a good place to chill. Sunday roast menu gives you good options for sharing and the food is very tasty. We swept the whole table clean after the long wait. I would go back for the food.
Excellent, delicious, perfectly cooked Sunday lamb lunch . Also an exciting dessert menu, instead of the predictable suspects
Very attentive friendly staff.
Sophisticated but relaxed atmosphere
Definitely return to this restaurant
