About This Pub

Ah, Waggon and Horses – it's one of those pubs that really pulls at the heartstrings for me, tucked away in Nottingham with that classic British charm. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, it's fantastic for gatherings like wakes, where the landlady and her crew shine by creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere that leaves you feeling right at home. The food gets a thumbs up too, with people chatting about how it adds a nice touch to the day. But, and I hate to say it, there are a few bumps in the road; some tales of the landlord losing his cool and behaving in a way that sours the experience, or staff giving off a less than friendly vibe when you're just trying to grab a pint. It's a pity because the place has clearly made strides under the current owners, turning it into a community favourite, but those inconsistencies could put a damper on things if you're not lucky with your visit. Overall, I'd say it's worth popping in if you're after a proper pub feel, just keep an eye out and go in with realistic expectations – after all, no place is perfect, and it's the good bits that keep drawing folks back.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The landlady and her team are absolutely brilliant at making everyone feel welcome, especially for special occasions like wakes – it's heartwarming to hear how they go the extra mile.
  • The atmosphere is spot on for events; it's cosy and creates lovely memories, with some folks raving about the food that really hits the spot.
  • Under the current owners, the pub seems to have turned things around and become a real gem in the community, perfect for a good old catch-up.
Cons
  • There have been a few unsettling incidents, like the landlord getting a bit out of hand during events, which has left some feeling quite upset and put off.
  • Service can be hit or miss, with stories of unfriendly attitudes when trying to get a drink, even when the place is quiet.
  • Hygiene isn't always up to scratch, as a couple of mentions about fruit flies and other niggles have cropped up, which is a shame for an otherwise inviting spot.

We had a wake at the Wagon and Horses, very recently, the landlady and her husband, were excellent, they helped us make it a good wake, all who attended said how nice it was and how welcome they felt. I would highly recommend the function room for any occasion. Thanks again to the Landlady and landlord.

Landord stormed out and took a drink out of a customers hand during an wake without any communication and provocation. i am utterly disgusted by their behaviour and i have had to leave the wake due to all that witnessed distress. i will never step foot in this establishment again. also the fruit flies and the dirty glasses would’ve let that go due to the circumstances but after current event that must be highlighted.

Very disappointed with the feedback I've had from family members who came to my daughters party having rented their function room out and sent plenty of customers their way to the bar. The pub was empty but my family and friends faced disgusting attitude when requesting to purchase drinks. If it wasn't for my daughter's birthday I don't know what would have happened that day. The request was for hot water/hot drinks, having spent money booking the room I think hot water isn't a big ask but nevertheless it was guests who asked so I'm unsure as to why it was taken out on them?

We did not eat there, so I cannot judge on it BUT since I got married to a local Redhill girl more than 30 years ago, and we now live in Germany, visiting the local in-laws regularly, all I can say is that the Pub has become a shining Star again. Thanks to the current owners. They have safed this great Pub from oblivion. We went there shortly before they arrived and there was a lot of talk of closing the Pub down and things were really depressing. Now, it is a great Pub again and I am looking forward to Christmas when we are back in Redhill and will pay some visit to The Waggon & Horses again. Thank you for keeping this great place alive. Greetings from Germany Anna and Stefan
