About This Pub
Ah, Union Social – it's one of those places in East London that just feels like a hidden gem, tucked away in the East Village area. From what I've gathered from the reviews and a peek at their setup, it's got this warm, inclusive vibe where you can swing by for anything from a hearty breakfast to late-night cocktails, all in a comfy lounge or out on the terrace. The staff really shine here; they're super attentive and friendly, which makes the whole experience feel personal and enjoyable, like chatting with old mates over a well-poured drink. The food's another highlight – fresh, sustainable options that folks rave about, whether it's eggs Benedict for brunch or sharing plates in the evening. It's versatile too, ideal for a productive morning with free wi-fi or a casual evening with live bands to liven things up. But, to keep it real, it's not without its downsides. Some reviews mention the menu can be a tad sparse at quieter times, like not having certain brunch staples, and it might come across as a bit subdued if you're in the mood for a more energetic pub crawl. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a laid-back catch-up or a bite after exploring the area – I'd say give it a go if you're nearby, as the positives definitely outweigh the niggles for a balanced night out.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
The food is spot on – think delicious breakfasts, tasty brunches, and fresh, locally-sourced dishes that hit the spot every time.
-
It's a versatile spot for all sorts of occasions, whether you're popping in for a quick work session with free wi-fi or unwinding with mates over cocktails and live music.
-
The atmosphere is relaxed and inclusive, with a comfy lounge and terrace that give you plenty of space to chat or chill out.
Cons
-
The menu can feel a bit limited at certain times, like during weekday lunches when options are fewer than you'd hope.
-
Some classic items, such as pancakes for brunch, aren't always on offer, which might disappoint if you're after specific favourites.
-
It can be on the quieter side, especially early in the day, so if you're looking for a lively, buzzing vibe, it might not quite deliver.

Recent Reviews
Me and sister came here for a quick lunch after seeing a relative off at Stansted Airport.
We were served by Sadat. Who was very welcoming and friendly. Thank you.
The food was very nice and delicious I have been here before but was nice to be here again. Plus portion sides were great for a light lunch.
We liked the venue but did move tables as it was slightly darker in some parts of the seating area.
Context
Staying at the Gantry. Breakfast included in Hilton Honors membership as a Diamond member.
Positives
Good selection of English and continental breakfast. Eggs made to order - friendly lady who manages the egg station made fantastic poached eggs.
Actual restaurant staff were very attentive and make sure everything is ok during your meal and whether you require anything extra you could not find. Sadek was especially helpful in this regard.
Calm quiet space. Plenty of lighting and a range of different seating options (as long as you make it clear and choose them yourself).
Areas for Improvement
Initially seated by bar staff who first had to confirm my stay at the hotel. Was not offered an option of where to sit until I asked not to be placed on the furthest table away.
Chose another table before being told it was “reserved” despite no one sitting at the table even by the end of service. Eventually seated at the next available table along.
probably one of the best homemade flatbread in London! other dishes were also alright, but when I was there on weekday lunchtime not many choices. anyways enjoyed very calm moments with my friend.
Very nice place for brunch near Stratford International. It's just a shame they don't serve pancakes or some other brunch food, but the Eggs Benedict and pasta were very good.
We stopped for an early dinner at Union Social in The Gantry London Curio by Hilton. We were off to see a show at the London O2 Arena, so we thought we would eat at the hotel rather than settle for an expensive hot dog!
The restaurant has a nice ambience, and although we were the first people there, it soon got busier. The staff were very friendly and efficient, and were attentive throughout the meal. The food we had was fabulous, and we really enjoyed the Daube of Beef and our Chocolate Cheesecake to finish.
As far as prices go, I would say it’s very fairly priced for the quality, and I would certainly come back again – both to the hotel and the restaurant.
