About This Pub

Ah, the Unicorn in Wilmslow – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from folks who've been there, the food's a standout; whether it's a hearty curry or something lighter, it's all done really well and leaves you satisfied without breaking the bank. The staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which makes the whole experience feel personal and enjoyable. That outdoor area is a winner on a sunny day, tucked away in the verdant countryside, perfect for unwinding with a drink and good company. It's got all the right touches for families or even bringing the dog along, and if you're into sports, it's a great spot to catch the action. On the flip side, it does get buzzing during big matches, so if you're seeking a serene spot, you might want to time your visit carefully. Plus, being a touch out of the way means it's not the easiest for a quick pop-in, and as a chain pub, it has that familiar Greene King vibe that might not wow you with originality. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal or pint, and I'd say it's worth a go if you're in the area – just go with an open mind and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious options like Katsu Curry that hit the spot every time.
  • The staff are a real treat; they're hardworking, friendly, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, just like chatting with mates behind the bar.
  • It's got a cracking outdoor seating area that's perfect for soaking up the sun and enjoying a pint in the lovely countryside surroundings.
  • The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a peaceful vibe near the Peak District, making it ideal for a relaxed catch-up or watching the big sports events.
  • Plenty of facilities like a beer garden, free WiFi, and being dog-friendly add to the charm for a laid-back day out.
Cons
  • It can get a bit lively during major events like the Women's Euros, which might not suit if you're after a quiet evening.
  • Being a bit out in the countryside, it could be tricky to reach without a car, especially if you're coming from further afield.
  • As a Greene King spot, it has that chain pub feel, so it might not have the quirky, one-of-a-kind character some folks crave.

Tried this place out for the first time with my husband, dad and brother. It did not disappoint. Cute pub with nice outdoor seating, delicious food and excellent service from Jensen, the manager there! I would definitely recommend this place!!

Went in this evening to have a drink and tea with a friend - we hadn't been in for years and we're very warmly welcomed by the lovely Gav and his team. Enjoyed a gorgeous Katsu Curry and drinks, really nice atmosphere. Will definitely be returning very soon!

I went into the pub tonight feeling a little less than festive and was pleasantly surprised. On the way in I could see that the pub was well maintained, beautifully decorated and very clean. It's took me a little while to order my drink because there was quite a large selection, I usually go for an Ale but I went for the Shiraz and it was lovely. The bar Staff are prompt and friendly. I could tell there were a few regulars in the pub because there was a lot of laughter between bar staff and the customers, it was a lovely environment to be in. Reading the menu made me very hungry and the food was very well priced. But I cannot comment on the food because I had a pizza at home waiting. On the way out I went to the bar to ask for a Christmas menu. I was greeted by Gav. He advised me the pub had just been taken over and was under New Management. What I was impressed by came next. He was clearly enthusiastic in particular about what they are going to do for the customers going forward. I explained that my mother was eager to try new restaurants in the area. He took time to explain to me about what plans lie ahead for future events as well as the Christmas menu which is best booked in advance. It was nice to know that the Christmas menu was running into January because personally I won't have time before Christmas. He noted that my Mum was older and was excited to show me an events board which was inside the entrance highlighting future events for all age groups. He showed me in the restaurant where it would be held and it seemed big enough to cause a great atmosphere but not overwhelmingly large for somebody my mum's age. I think it might be a great place for her to go to socialise and have a great night out. It was refreshing to see somebody quite passionate about what they were doing and in the future I would happily give them my custom. I feel like it's the kind of place way you can go to have a couple's night out, family meal, events or a quiet drink in a nice atmosphere. In my opinion, anyone you take there will be pleasantly surprised, I have tried to take some pictures on the way out of the hidden gem. Thank you for cheering me up ☺️
