About This Pub

Ah, Turks Head in Darlington – it's one of those classic pubs that just feels like the heart of the neighbourhood, you know? From what I've gathered from folks who've popped in, it's got this welcoming vibe where you can kick back with a pint and chat away. The Guinness is reliably good, and that beer garden is an absolute gem on a sunny day, perfect for soaking up the atmosphere or watching the match. Then there's the entertainment; the DJ on Thursdays is top-notch, and the karaoke nights bring a real buzz, even if they do get a bit raucous at times. On the downside, if they're understaffed, you might find yourself queuing up longer than you'd like, and those lively evenings can turn overwhelmingly loud if you're not in the mood. Still, it's a solid choice for a night out – especially if you fancy mingling with the locals – but I'd say it's best visited when you're up for a bit of everything, good and bad alike.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a real community feel that makes you want to settle in for the evening.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, including a decent pint of Guinness that's spot on for a proper pub experience.
  • The beer garden is a lovely spot, especially in the summer, with plenty of space and even a telly for catching the latest sports.
  • Entertainment options like excellent DJ nights and a cracking karaoke selection keep things lively and fun.
  • The staff are a brilliant bunch, and the regulars add to that homely vibe, making it feel like your local go-to spot.
Cons
  • Service can be a tad slow when they're short on staff, so you might end up waiting a while for your round.
  • Karaoke nights can get pretty noisy – think 'bleeding ears' level – which isn't ideal if you're after a peaceful chat.
  • It tends to draw an older crowd, which is charming but might not suit those looking for a more youthful buzz.
  • It's at its best in the warmer months; things can feel a bit subdued during the colder times.

Great venue for a bit of craic! Decent Guinness (by English standards) and fair beer garden. Not a bad shout for a night out. Prepare for bleeding ears though if you drop by on karaoke night though. 😅

Good honest town boozer. my local of three years and the heart and soul of the darlington I know and love. You get all sorts in here but the proper regulars are some of the finest examples of human beings you'll ever meet. Staff are a great bunch aswell (faith you absoloute poo-drinker lol)
