About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about the Britannia Inn – it's one of those hidden gems in Darlington that just warms your cockles from the get-go. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the drinks are a real highlight; they've got this brilliant selection of cask ales and a gin bar that's got everyone raving, making it ideal for sinking a pint or two with friends. The atmosphere is spot on too – think cosy nooks, a classic jukebox, and even those nostalgic pickled eggs that give it that authentic pub feel. And don't get me started on the live music and open mic nights; they add such a fun, energetic twist that keeps things lively without being overwhelming. On the flip side, it's a tad frustrating that there's no clear info on when they're open, so you might rock up and find the doors shut, which is a shame for spontaneous plans. Plus, with no website or proper online setup, it's not the easiest place to keep tabs on, but if you're up for a bit of adventure, it's well worth seeking out for a proper good time. All in all, it's a solid spot that does the traditional pub thing brilliantly, even if it could do with a bit more polish online.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks are absolutely spot on – think a fantastic range of cask ales and a cracking gin bar that really hit the spot.
  • It's got that cosy, traditional pub vibe with a jukebox and even pickled eggs, making it feel like a proper old-school gem.
  • The staff are so friendly and welcoming; they make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • Live music and open mic sessions add a brilliant buzz, perfect for a fun night out with mates.
Cons
  • It's a bit of a mystery when they're actually open, as there are no operating hours listed, which could leave you hanging.
  • No website or online presence means it's tricky to get the lowdown before you go, so you might end up winging it.
  • The place seems unclaimed and not fully sorted online, which might mean it's not as easy to find or stay in the loop about events.

Lovely traditional pub, small & cosy with loads of atmosphere, plenty of real beers to choose from, and regular live music -my group practices there midweek, as do a number of others, and I believe there is often a gig on weekend nights.
