About This Pub
Ah, Travellers Rest – it's one of those pubs that really hits the spot for a relaxed get-together with mates or family. I love how they've made it so welcoming for dogs; it's brilliant to pop in with your four-legged friend and know they'll be looked after with treats and a water bowl. The food's generally spot on too – think hearty pub classics, tasty pizzas, and a proper Sunday roast that's great value for money. Plus, the beer garden is a gem for those warmer evenings, and with live sport and music on offer, there's always something to keep the atmosphere buzzing. On the flip side, though, that QR code system for ordering drinks has been a right pain; it's meant to save you a tenner but ends up causing more hassle than it's worth, and they haven't always sorted it out quickly. A couple of reviews mentioned meals not quite hitting the mark, so it might pay to check what's on the menu that day. Overall, it's a solid spot for a pint and a chat, but like any place, it's got its quirks – I'd say give it a go and you'll likely have a good time, just keep expectations realistic.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's super dog-friendly, with treats and water bowls for your furry mates, which is a lovely touch for us pet owners.
-
They've got a great selection of pub grub like pizzas, burgers, and a cracking Sunday roast, all at affordable prices.
-
The beer garden is spacious and perfect for enjoying a pint in the fresh air, especially on a sunny day.
-
Live sport and music add to the lively atmosphere, and there's even a function room for parties or events.
Cons
-
The QR code ordering system has been glitchy and unreliable, leading to frustration and no discount as promised.
-
Food quality can be hit or miss; some visits are spot on, but others fall short of expectations, like with certain meals not living up to the hype.
-
It seems like there might be occasional service slip-ups, based on a few experiences where things didn't go smoothly.

Was requested by bar staff to use the new QR code process to order drinks and save 10% , after lots of faffing about it didn't work, when we told them they said yes we know it didn't work for us too! No offer from them to honour the discount. Still doesn't work a week later.
Called in for a drink with friends, it was a Sunday and a bank holiday so was fairly quiet although people were arriving as we left. Great service, friendly and helpful. Drinks were good
I called in this local on my way past recently and was made very welcome as always even though I don't live in the area. I have called in a few times when passing and have always found the staff really friendly. The food is basic pub grub but great value for the price. It's always my place to go if I'm in the Sutton area.
Visited the Travellers recently with my friends. The staff were so friendly and we had a good meal in a quiet corner. Food was well presented , and tasty ,service excellent. Enjoyed the beer which is kept well. Will go again soon 👌 ian
Just a follow up from my Grandmothers review on her 60th Birthday. We had came up a week before (Saturday) for a meal in which wasn't up to their usual standard and my grandad ordered a giant yorkshire with 'seasonal veg' without the meat, we expected a giant yorkshire with mash, peas, carrots, cabbage, maybe brussels however instead what we got was a yorkshire with just mash and peas. After the meal we put it down to a bad day and booked for a party of 18 for the 2 weeks following. When we turned up on the day we was informed we should have pre-ordered the food, which we was not told otherwise would have done and that it was the cooks first day and it was a party of 14 so food might not come out at all the same time which is fair enough.
When it came to ordering members of our party tried to order a mixed grill, mega mixed grill and giant yorkshire however this wasn't available so they picked otherwise. The food did all arrive at the same time which was very impressive however the quality was not good. The gammon was extremely salty and seemed slightly undercooked, the cottage pie was cold and tasted off to the point of it being inedible (was not eaten at all), the portions of chips were burnt to the point of a lot of the chips being black and the overall standard of the food wasn't great.
The reason most of the plates was empty was because we cannot afford to spend £150 on food to then not eat it as this was a rare treat for the family. Over the course of the next day multiple members of our party are ill with stomach issues, with the food taking a hour to come out (understandable with the party size and not having pre-ordered) we didn't want to complain to have it remade and have to wait another hour as some members of our party had to get off and we are not usually the type to complain.
The standards being bad once is a bad day, twice is when we find somewhere else.
The food was the main and only issue, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere of the place was good which is why we are so disappointed after in previous years this be our go-to place when we went out for a treat.
