About This Pub
Ah, Staff of Life – it's one of those local gems that just feels like a proper community hub, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the place has this warm, inviting atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with friends over a pint, and it's ace for families or even if you're popping in with the dog. The new management has clearly put in the effort, with evenings livened up by karaoke and talented singers that really get the crowd going – I hear the acts are top-notch and add a fun twist to your visit. The beer selection is spot on and reasonably priced, making it easy to settle in for the night. On the flip side, though, the bar prices can be a tad high, which might make you think twice if you're on a tight budget, and there've been a few mentions of food not always hitting the mark, like a lasagne that was a bit on the watery side for some tastes. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out, especially if you're after that classic pub feel with a bit of entertainment, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind to set your expectations right.

The atmosphere is friendly and suitable for families.
My hound Loki was over joyed that he and other well-behaved dogs are still welcomed.
After a few weeks of no meals available, I'm now able to tell you that the kitchen is now open with a wow! The new chef is really good, and everyone l spoke to were extremely impressed with the food and the variety of meals available all at a reasonable price.
Meals are available 12 - 3.00 daily except for Tuesdays. It's advisable to book for Sunday lunches.
There is regular entertainment, groups, open mike night, and card bingo. On occasion there are speciality events e.g. physic evenings and craft fairs.
A large private function room is available to hire. If required, buffet style catering can be provided.
There is ample seating outside.
Disabled parking / access / toilet facilities and room inside for wheelchair users to move comfortably around.
Next to a bus stop and close to town centre.
I'm very happy to recommend a visit - and I'd be surprised if it stopped at one.
Difficult to judge fairly as I was only there attending a wake and as a designated driver did not have anything to drink. The buffet, which I did not try - too close to a regular meal time, looked good and was enjoyed by the other guests. The atmosphere was like any of these occasions, people who have not met for months or years catching up with each other. Not the best event to give a true assessment of the establishment.
Lovely old fashioned pub with nice affordable beer and great staff.
Always friendly and made to feel welcome.
Fantastic Local pub. Always has lots of evening activities to keep the patrons entertained.
The musical prowess of the special guest singers is closely followed by their prowess at cooking meals.
I had a particularly wet lasagne the last time I visited, bit my partner and I love a wet lasagne.
There is always lots of variety with the food on offer and even then there's always the choice between chips and potato.
I would definitely recommend the staff to anyone visiting Sutton in ashfield as it's certainly been a highlight of my trip and I've been to the Taj Mahal.
All in all this was like an angels whisper and a perfect accompaniment to yesterday.
A great local pub, a good friendly atmosphere with plenty happening on certain days during the week, with local artists performing on a regular basis...I came to watch a local duo...
I'm not a regular and was pleasantly surprised how many people were here...
There's a good selection of beers with lots happening through the week and certainly worth a visit if in the area...
