About This Pub

Ah, Travellers Call – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that really grows on you once you step inside. From what I've gathered, the staff are absolute gems; they're polite, efficient, and seem to genuinely care about making your visit enjoyable, which always lifts the spirits on a quiet night out. The drinks menu is a highlight too, with some top-notch beers that hit the spot just right, and that beer garden is a proper treat when the weather's on your side – imagine settling in with mates for a chat and a cold one. Plus, it's spot on for functions; whether it's a birthday bash or something more sentimental like a wake, they've got affordable buffets that cater to all tastes, making it a go-to for local get-togethers. On the flip side, though, it's not without its flaws – I've heard tales of pints not pouring quite as they should, with excessive froth leaving you short-changed, and that minimum card payment rule can be a real bother if you're caught without cash. Overall, it's got that charming, unpretentious feel that's quintessentially British, but it does have a bit of a rough-around-the-edges vibe that might not suit everyone. If you're in Stockport and fancy a pint in a place that's trying its best, I'd say give it a go – it's got more ups than downs, and that's saying something from the folks who've been there.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always going out of their way to make you feel welcome, like that time they let someone in early when they were just about to open.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers, with the John Willy Lees bitter coming in particularly good form – perfect for a proper pint.
  • The beer garden is a lovely spot, especially on a sunny day, and the indoor and outdoor areas are kept nice and clean.
  • It's brilliant for events like birthdays or weddings, with affordable buffets and a welcoming vibe that makes it easy to host a gathering.
Cons
  • Sometimes the drinks don't quite hit the mark, like getting a pint with an excessive head of froth, which can put a damper on things.
  • That £5 minimum for card payments feels a bit restrictive if you're just nipping in for a quick drink and don't have cash on you.
  • The place can have a rough edge to it at times, making it feel less polished than you'd hope for a relaxed evening out.

Sort of rough — was given one of my worst Guinness heads — but the staff were polite, and helpful enough — though the £5 minimum card charge is somewhat prohibitive (not that the pint of Guinness was under that)

Random stop with a person I support, we'd been refused by the last place on werneth low for wanting to use cash can you believe. Anyway stopped at the travellers who were not quiet open yet but the fabulous landlady could see I was supporting someone and let us in. Lovely pub inside and landlady was so welcoming. I'll be popping back for food definitely.

First visit here, only lived fairly locally for 25 years. John Willy Lees bitter was on good form. Bar staff very good. So much so a top up offered to get rid of the excessive head of froth, which incidentally is not part of a pint. All in all, a good visit. Would go again.

Margaret is fabulous landlady, would highly recommend the traveller's call for function's from, birthdays 🎂 weddings 💑 to wakes & christenings all catered for. Different types of buffets to cater for all very reasonably priced. Lovely beer garden & a great pint. Sunday dinners advise booking in advance all round family establishment.

Great friendly atmosphere with good service. The drinks order service was slick and efficient. A good selection of drinks were available. The indoor and outdoor seating area were nice and clean and are a nice place to sit on a sunny day. We were greeted at the door by a member of staff, where there was a hand gel station for use on arrival. The one way system worked well. We will visit again.
