About This Pub
Ah, Toby Carvery Kings Norton – it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a good, honest British meal, doesn't it? I've got to say, popping in for a roast feels like a proper treat; the food's generally spot on, with those carefully prepared meats and veg that make you appreciate the effort that goes into it. The staff are gems, always up for a chat and handling the hustle with a smile, which makes the whole experience feel warm and inviting. It's spot on for families or catching up with friends over an all-you-can-eat feast at a price that won't break the bank. On the flip side, though, it's not all gravy – I've heard tales of food turning up a bit cold or overly seasoned, and when they're under the pump with staffing, things can slow down, leaving you twiddling your thumbs. Plus, keeping things spick and span seems to slip occasionally, which is a shame. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal in Birmingham, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe book ahead to avoid the rush. I'd pop back for another go, but I'd keep an eye on those little niggles to make it even better.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The roasts are absolutely spot on – they've been perfecting them for 40 years, and you can taste the care in every bite, with fresh veggies and tender meats.
-
The staff are a real highlight; folks like Debs and Sandra go above and beyond, staying cheerful even when they're stretched thin, making you feel right at home.
-
It's brilliant value for money, being on the inexpensive side, with all-you-can-eat options, a kids' menu, and a good range of drinks to wash it all down.
-
Super family-friendly vibe, ideal for gathering with mates or loved ones over a classic British meal, and it's open seven days a week from early morning till late.
-
Location's a winner – easy to get to by car or bus, right in Birmingham, so no faffing about finding the place.
Cons
-
Service can drag a bit when they're short-staffed, like having only one person on carving duty, which might leave you waiting longer than you'd like.
-
Some dishes have had issues, such as food arriving cold or being a tad too salty, which puts a damper on the experience.
-
There have been a few gripes about cleanliness, like bins not being handled properly, that could do with some attention to keep things up to scratch.
-
It gets busy, especially on weekends, so you might end up queuing or dealing with a bit of a rush, even if they do their best to accommodate.

We had a lovely breakfast here but more than anything was so impressed with staff member Debs she was so friendly & helpful even though she was the only member of staff on. She was serving drinks, taking orders, clearing tables and taking bookings all on her own but still with a smile on her face. She definitely needs recognition for her hard work.
Our waitress Sandra was wonderful, so kind and chatty with our baby. The gammon was very salty but the food otherwise was tasty. Shame there was only one person carving on a Saturday lunch which slowed things down
My carvery was nice once heated up in the microwave as it was cold. There was no gravy and the station was full of food and it still is for the second time after my friend cleaned it initially. The carvery ouck d up the bin with a dirty tea towel scrapped food into the bin then used th same tea towel to carry plates from th kitchen and attach to his clothes so he can re-use it. For example wiping his hands. Don't have the Bakewell sponge tastes mostly of sugar nothing else.
Didn’t book, was busy but still managed to get a table.
Everything was fresh and tasty, £15 now for a carvery on a Sunday and enjoyed it 👍🏻
Yes I use a spoon.
Will return
The location of the restaurant is very good for everyone, very easy to access if you are driving and for anyone who is taking the bus, the bus stops (on either side of the road) are just by the restaurant so you won’t be walking extra distance to get to the restaurant or get to your buses. And also, the Kings Norton train station is just about two minutes walk from there too. So it is easily accessible.
The food is great and the carvery is excellent. There is the mini game centre for kids and of course adults too can play the games 😂 there is a private dining area that is conducive for meetings too. You can go there for your breakfast and also lunch and dinner. The environment is child friendly and the meals are very affordable.
PS: They offer delivery services too and you can also take away for food.
