About This Pub
You know, when I popped into Timbers in Colchester, it really hit the spot as a proper local gem – it's this welcoming family-run place that's all about hearty, well-made dishes using fresh local bits and bobs, like their full English breakfasts that folks rave about. The staff are just brilliant, always chipping in with a smile and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that relaxed, homely feel. Prices are spot on too, so you can enjoy a cracking meal without worrying about the cost. On the downside, it's gotten so popular that you might have to plan ahead or risk not getting a table, and from what I've heard from a few mates, they can be a bit set in their ways with the menu, not always up for changes, which is a pity if you're after something specific. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together over good food and drinks, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just keep those little niggles in mind for a smoother experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch, with fresh local ingredients that make every bite feel special and authentic.
-
Friendly and attentive staff who always go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, creating a really warm atmosphere.
-
Incredibly affordable for the quality – you get cracking meals without breaking the bank, which is a win for everyday outings.
-
It's a cosy spot in historic Colchester, offering a great vibe for casual meals, and they've got a secluded garden for when the weather's nice.
Cons
-
It's so popular that you often need to book ahead, or you might end up waiting around, which can be a bit frustrating on busy days.
-
Service can occasionally feel a tad inflexible, like when they won't tweak orders much, which might disappoint if you're after custom tweaks.

Be sure to book in advance this place is very popular!
Yet again superb service and excellent food!
We had the full English which includes a coffee in the price of £8.95 (hash browns are included but they’re not for me so they are not present on my plate). My wife had smashed avocado and eggs on toast, both dishes were excellent made with good quality produce and perfect treat on a Sunday morning!
Visited on Mothers Day morning, stupidly without booking! They were of course fully
booked but the staff said they would do everything they could to fit us in and to come back in 10 minutes.
We did and they had found us a table. Breakfast menu has something for everyone and was superb and in our opinion great value for money when we
compared prices with some of the big chains and pubs in the City. The service could not have been any better!!! They were really busy but still efficient, friendly and smiling at all times.
We’ve never been disappointed when visiting and would highly recommended others go and discover this hidden gem in the city centre.
Stopped here for breakfast On a short break to Colchester … food was fantastic but service was a little strange, asked for no tomato or mushrooms on my fry up and that I would like extra black pudding instead (that I was charged extra for), but was told they could not do that, they kindly served them on a side plate so it would not contaminate my breakfast but I obviously just left them to be thrown away, very odd ! The lady on the table next to us said she was a vegan and that she didn’t like tomato and the same waitress offered to swap for an extra fried egg instead. We won’t be back, shame as the food was delicious.
Went for breakfast on a Sunday after a recommendation. We didn't realise how popular Timbers was and we can see why. The quality of the food was great and cooked perfectly. The staff are attentive and friendly. Would definitely visit again.
Been coming to Timbers for years.
Always made to feel welcome and friendly atmosphere.
The food is banging I would highly recommend as they only use local meat.
