About This Pub
Ah, Turtle Bay in Colchester – it's one of those places that just hits the spot when you're in the mood for a bit of Caribbean flair without hopping on a plane. I have to say, the staff really make it shine; they're so welcoming and efficient, like that server who kept the drinks flowing during brunch or the one who made dining alone feel effortless. The food is where it truly excels – those rich, spicy dishes and cocktails at happy hour prices are an absolute delight, and it's clear from the buzz that folks love coming back for more. On the flip side, the lighting can be a tad inconsistent, which sometimes disrupts the warm ambiance you'd hope for, and while it's delicious, it might not quite capture the full authenticity of the islands for the more seasoned travellers among us. All in all, it's a solid choice for a fun lunch, dinner, or drinks with friends – just keep those little niggles in mind, and you'll have a whale of a time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and super helpful, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
The food is a real treat – think bold, flavoursome Caribbean dishes like jerk cheese fries and curry goat hash that are cooked to perfection and full of that island vibe.
-
They've got cracking happy hour deals with 2-for-1 cocktails, perfect for a cheeky afternoon session or evening out, and the bottomless brunch is top-notch for a fun get-together.
-
The atmosphere is spot on with great music and a welcoming feel, ideal for dates, catch-ups with mates, or even a solo bite.
-
It's conveniently located in central Colchester with handy facilities like outdoor space and wheelchair access, making it easy to pop in before or after a show or film.
Cons
-
The lighting can feel a bit off and mismatched in places, which might throw off the cosy vibe you're expecting.
-
While the food and drinks are brilliant, it might not be the most authentic Caribbean experience for those who've travelled the islands, though it's still tasty as can be.

Krish was a really helpful and friendly server when I was dining alone.
Food arrived quickly and was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. I had the roti with sweetcorn fritters and jerk cheese fries. Very nice atmosphere.
Although, I would say that the lighting in the venue is very mismatched and could be improved for a better experience.
Turtle Bay have upped their game! The bottomless brunch was top tier! The service from Morgan was 10/10 with keeping us topped up constantly and the food remains amazing quality as always! We will be back!
Me and a friend came for the bottomless brunch. Our server was Fran who was friendly and provided quick service, regularly coming back to take our drink orders and we managed to get 7 drinks each in the 2 hour slot. The food was also very good!
Great music and lovely staff, Conrad was prompt and polite and the Trini doubles were my favourite, the food was full of flavour and it was a great lunch for our daughter birthday !
We will be back !
Amazing Caribbean food! Not sure how authentic compared to some places I have visited, but definitely tasty nonetheless. Lovely cocktails too at good prices, especially at happy hour.
100% recommend the curry goat hash!
