About This Pub

Ah, the Three Pigeons – it's one of those classic pubs in Bolton that really tries to get it right, you know? From what I've gathered, it's all about that warm, inviting atmosphere where the team goes out of their way to make you feel welcome, and they've got a solid menu with fresh ingredients and plenty of choices for everyone, including veggies and vegans. It's refreshing to see a place that's so involved in the community, offering their function area for free and even having a doggy corner for those who bring their four-legged mates along. Prices are spot on for a casual night out, with great value deals that make it easy on the wallet. But, let's be straight, it's not perfect – I've heard a few tales of small portions that don't quite satisfy, and some meals turning up undercooked or burnt, which is a real shame when you're looking forward to a good feed. If you're heading out with the family or a group, seating might not always be ideal, leading to a bit of a letdown. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in the area for a relaxed pint and some pub classics, but maybe keep expectations in check and go on a day when things are sizzling just right. It's that kind of place – full of potential, with the highs making up for the occasional off notes.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got a great selection of affordable pub grub, with fresh ingredients and options for vegetarians and vegans, plus daily deals that won't break the bank.
  • They've got that traditional pub atmosphere with a fun twist, like sizzling skillets and flame-grilled burgers, and it's lovely how they support the local community.
  • It's dog-friendly with a special corner for furry friends, which is a thoughtful touch if you're popping in with your pooch.
  • The menu offers good variety and value, perfect for a casual catch-up with mates or family over some hearty meals.
Cons
  • Food portions can be on the small side, which might leave you feeling a bit short-changed, especially if you're after a proper filling meal.
  • Quality seems inconsistent – some dishes arrive undercooked or overdone, like burnt lasagne or misleading presentations with minimal sauce.
  • It might not be the best spot for groups with kids, as seating arrangements can feel awkward and lead to a disappointing experience.
  • Recent visits have shown it's not always up to scratch, with a few folks mentioning the food doesn't quite live up to the hype for the price.
  • While it's generally affordable, the overall experience can vary, so you might end up with a mixed bag depending on the day.

The food arrived and presentation looked great however, very small portions, especially for a grown nan who works 7 days a week and gave himself 2 hours off to take me out...then I realised the sauce was minimal and was misleading due to red peppers...yellow pepper and shed load of onions placed on top....the steak was very poor quality and it upsets ne because animals are slaughtered for our use and just took for granted..overall terrible and would not recommend food here...staff however ard friendly and helpful...and it's a nice furnished place..in response to your message...been to many places I wished I could say something better, I feel let down. We over 80 staff , 10 office staff was looking for somewhere different to go Christmas time for a change, but the woman who came to assist us , we were left feeling insulted..thanks.. jpo builders and joiners Wigan ..

Went here as a party of 7 (5 adults, 2 children), and it was sadly a very disappointing experience. We were seated in the center of a side room dining area with seating all around us, which was a terrible idea as we had 2 young kids with us, so we moved ourselves to the plentiful empty booths around the edge of the room to prevent being in the way of the other diners. We each ordered our meals, and food was served 1-2 diners at a time with large gaps in between and to make matters worse, the children's meals were served a good 5 minutes after everyone else had been served, which wasn't ideal, as anyone with kids would know. The food was also extremely lacking, we ordered share nachos, which were literally plain nachos with some sort of passata thrown at it, plastic melted cheese, and cold slices of jalapenos. I ordered the 'boss burger,' which was a stack of a bland chicken burger and a very tough beef burger. This also came with mac n cheese, which was cold to the touch, as well as chips, which I paid extra to have loaded with cheese and bacon, which was okay to be fair. My partner had 'seasoned salmon,' which was extremely overcooked, the top half of the fish could be lifted as a whole piece from the bottom it was so tough. This came with rice, which was stone cold throughout. Overall this was a disappointing experience, I couldn't recommend

It's a lovely pub with a great menu. I had the chicken curry with rice. A nan bread. Poppadom and mango chutney. And a chicken tikka skewer. My friend had the mixed grill with steak, sausages, chicken breast, onion rings, mushrooms, and tomato. The meal was lovely. The staff were very attentive. There is a large car park.

A good menu selection and very affordable, an ideal place for pub grub, they even have a “doggy corner” were people are able to come in with their dogs and have a drink or some food. Thought that was very lovely touch from the establishment.

I went for a meal with my son, and the food was awful. The lasagne we ordered was not cooked, and then they said they would get new ones. They were the same ones totally burnt to a crisp. For the money you are paying, this is not good enough. I think the chef needs to retake his exams RUBBISH
