About This Pub
Ah, The Woodman – it's one of those pubs that just warms you up from the moment you step in. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the Sunday roasts are spot on, with folks raving about the pork, beef, and chicken options, all served up with a side of that homely feel you crave after a long week. The staff really shine too; they're attentive and make events like engagements or even more sombre occasions feel handled with care and a bit of heart. That garden area brings a lovely Mediterranean twist, perfect for soaking up the sun with a good drink in hand, and they've got a solid lineup of ales and events to keep things lively. On the flip side, it's a bit of a shame that food service ends early on weekdays, so if you're out and about later, you might miss out. Plus, it does fill up quickly, especially on Sundays, and the prices are on the moderate side, which could add up if you're popping in regularly. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts – a place that does the classics well, with just enough charm to make you want to return, but remember to book ahead for the best experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The Sunday roasts are an absolute delight – juicy meats, fresh veg, and even veggie options, making it a top pick for a proper family meal.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, going the extra mile for events like birthdays, engagements, or even funeral receptions, which adds a real personal touch.
-
That Mediterranean-style garden is a gem, offering a relaxing spot for a pint of real ale or a glass of wine on a sunny afternoon.
-
They've got a great selection of drinks, from traditional ales and ciders to gins and wines, plus fun events and a street food truck on Saturdays.
-
It's well-suited for groups, with a function room that's easy to book and no hidden fees, making it ideal for special occasions.
Cons
-
Food service wraps up early on weekdays – just until 3pm – so if you're fancying a late lunch, you might need to plan around that.
-
It can get quite busy, especially for Sunday roasts, so booking ahead is a must to avoid disappointment, particularly with larger groups.
-
With a moderate price tag, it might feel a tad on the pricey side for everyday visits, though it's worth it for the quality.

We held our mother's funeral reception at the woodman. The staff were very engaged from the start, understanding what we needed, giving us helpful choices and explaining the options for running the reception. They were very helpful in setting up the rolling images of mum on the big screen, provided a microphone with no fuss.
It was a simple 8 minute journey from the crematorium. Everything was ready when we arrived, the staff were attentive, the food came when we asked and there were sufficient staff to cover the 60 people.
We had a wonderful reception and celebrated mum's life in a way she would have loved. Thanks to Julie and the team.
Had the Roast dinner on Sunday. We were a big group for my birthday. Dale, Julie and the team were amazing and really helpful.
The Roast dinner was the best roast we’ve had out too!
Dale and the team are absolutely fantastic. Me & my fiance held our engagement party here recently and couldn't have asked for a better night. Dale & team were super accommodating and couldn't have done anymore for us, nothing was a problem. We are super appreciative and over the moon with how it all went. Thank you!
Had a lovely lunch at The Woodman. Have been wanting to come here for a while now and it did not disappoint. Staff were super friendly and helpful, the outside space is very relaxing and welcoming and well thought out and the food was lovely, particularly enjoyed the Ploughman's with the various cheeses. We will be back.
