About This Pub

Ah, The Windmill – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this wonderful, intimate atmosphere that's ideal for catching up with friends over a pint. The beer comes highly recommended, with folks mentioning excellent choices that really hit the spot, and that open log fire sounds like a treat on a winter's night. It's got all that quirky character you'd expect from the oldest pub in Loughborough, with wooden stalls adding a nice touch of nostalgia. But, let's be honest, it's not without its downsides. The space is on the small side, so if you're with a big group, you might end up feeling a tad squished. And those outdoor toilets? They're clean enough, but they can be a bit of a shock in the cold – not exactly what you want after a few drinks. Plus, there's a real worry it might close soon, which would be a pity because it seems to hold so many fond memories for regulars. Overall, if you're in the area and fancy a traditional pub experience, I'd say give it a go while you can; it's got heart, but just keep those potential hiccups in mind for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's a cosy little spot with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a quiet pint and a chat with mates.
  • The beer selection is spot on, with excellent options like Newcastle Brown Ale that locals rave about.
  • There's a lovely open log fire that adds to the charm, especially on a chilly evening.
  • As the oldest pub in Loughborough, it has that authentic, quirky feel with wooden stalls and a bit of history that makes every visit special.
  • Reviews mention fresh food being served, which sounds like a nice bonus for a quick bite alongside your drink.
Cons
  • The pub is quite small, so it might feel a bit cramped if it gets busy, limiting space for larger groups.
  • The toilets are outside, which can be a right nuisance in cold weather, even if they're kept clean.
  • There's talk of it closing down, which is a shame as it might not be around for much longer based on recent reviews.
  • No operating hours are listed, which could make planning a visit a bit of a gamble.
  • It seems like food isn't always available, so you might need to head elsewhere if you're after a proper meal.

Being a local I always loved drinking in this pud with my family. Me and my dad always loved the Newcastle brown. We have fond memories and love the place.

Nice pub apparently the oldest in Loughborough, unfortunately the landlord told us that he was closing in 1 hour for good and the owners were selling it, so it may not be a pub anymore in the future, we may have been in the last 4 customers.

I went here for a drink before going for a meal with my family over the weekend, the drinks are nice the pub is quite small really. With nice quirky wooden stalls. The toilets are out side though which made them cold but they were very clean.

Very small and cosy place. Can only review what the interior looked like as they weren't serving food that day, we went during the Christmas period. A small pub with a lit fire place. Perfect for a quiet drink.

Reputedly the oldest pub in Loughborough. Excellent beer. Open log fire compliments a very friendly atmosphere. Fresh hot/cold food served daily. Well worth visiting.
