About This Pub
Ah, The Whitesmiths Arms – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Gloucester, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, it's got this warm, traditional vibe that's perfect for catching up with friends over a pint. The staff really stand out; they're polite and make you feel welcome straight away, which is always a winner. The beers are spot on too – well-kept real ales and the usual taps that go down a treat, especially if you're into a classic session. Plus, there's fun extras like dartboards, a pool table, and a jukebox that's not only great but also easy on the pocket, making it ideal for a relaxed evening. On the flip side, though, the spirits aren't quite up to scratch – it's a bit limited, so if you're after something specific, you might be out of luck. And while the old-school charm is lovely, it can come across as a tad worn in spots, and it might not always be lively, depending on when you pop in. Overall, it's a solid choice for a casual drink or a game, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a great time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They've got a great selection of beers, including some top-notch real ales that really hit the spot.
-
It's a proper traditional pub with a cosy atmosphere, complete with dartboards and a pool table for a bit of fun.
-
The jukebox is a brilliant touch – affordable and adds to the lively vibe, especially for an evening out.
-
Prices are reasonable, making it a wallet-friendly spot for a pint or a game with mates.
Cons
-
The spirits selection could do with a bit more variety; it's not the strongest point, so you might miss out on some favourites.
-
It can be a tad quiet at times, like on a mid-afternoon visit, which might not suit if you're after a buzzing crowd.
-
Being an old pub, it has that classic charm, but it does feel a bit dated in places, which could use a refresh.

Carpeted throughout, bit like a U shaped bar. Usual tap beers and a few real ales available. Staff were friendly and polite. Couple of dartboards available. Beer was good. Nice place enjoyed my visit.
Only popped in for a pint, mid afternoon on a Saturday.
Not many in, served a good pint.
Lovely friendly traditional pub. Well kept beers and great music. Small dance floor and DJ are a nice e touch. Pickled eggs pretty good too
Great place to have an evening out, spirit section not great could improve, however great juke box at a great price and cheap pool table, lady behind the bar was really friendly. Liked it.
This is first time I went in here. This is situated on main road of Southgate Street. Very old pub which is nice and history of used to be used for the sailors who used to make the Riging and Sails.. Friendly and welcoming staff. Was busy and has pool table and Jukebox.. Plenty of seating inside and a garden outside.. I would go again as friendly pub.
