About This Pub

Ah, The Tall Ship – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Gloucester, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the staff really shine; they're attentive and helpful, making every visit feel personal and enjoyable, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or a full meal. The food stands out too – fresh, nicely presented, and with a variety that caters to different tastes, like cracking seafood dishes that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. It's got that unpretentious charm with extras like a beer garden for sunnier days and a pool table to keep things lively, which is brilliant for unwinding with friends. On the flip side, it's not without its quirks; the absence of real ales might put off those who fancy a more traditional brew, and the decor does have that slightly worn-in look that could do with a bit of updating to keep up with the times. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone after a straightforward, enjoyable pub experience – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the minor niggles, and it's all about that genuine, relaxed vibe that makes you want to come back.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely – friendly, polite, and always ready with a warm welcome that makes you feel right at home.
  • The food is spot on; fresh, well-prepared dishes with a good selection, including tasty options like seafood, and it's all served to a high standard.
  • It's a clean and tidy spot with nice touches like a beer garden and a pool table, perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening with mates.
  • You get that authentic traditional pub vibe here, away from the pricey chain spots, making it a great place to catch up or watch an event like the Grand National.
Cons
  • It's a shame about the lack of real ales; they stick to the usual taps, which might leave ale lovers a bit disappointed.
  • The decor is a tad dated, giving it an old-school feel that some might find charming, but others could see as needing a refresh.

Quite a nice looking bar inside. Staff were friendly, polite and welcoming. Usual tap beers but no real ales available. Nice tidy and clean. Beer garden at the rear of the premises. Pool table available in the bar. Beer was good. Enjoyed my visit.

Glad we found a traditional pub away from the overpriced chains on the harbour. Watched the Grand National and the 33/1 winner made my day. Staff were excellent.

Lovely lunch here, only just reopening after Covid-19 and would definitely recommend. The staff were friendly, attentive, welcoming and very helpful. The food was absolutely lovely. Relaxed, unpretentious and unassuming. Decor a little dated, but if you choose restaurants for their food and you want a change from the usual mainstream chains give these guys a try. They're aiming to use seasonal produce which is a winner for me. I chose Whitebait starter and Scollops from their specials board.

We felt we were warmly welcomed by the staff who were plight and helpful. They had a good list on the special board and an amazing every day menu. The Tall Ship was well decorated and clean. The food was all freshly prepared and was nicely presented. We only went as it was my birthday and we were visiting the area but we will definitely be back to try more amazing food

I've been here a few times so far and the food is amazing. They serve lobster/crab and plenty of other dishes if you're not keen on seafood. The food is really fresh and served to a high standard and there's a good selection of drinks too. It's never been too busy either. The pub doesn't look like anything special but it's in a good location and the food/drinks make up for it. There's also an outdoor area.
