About This Pub
You know, chatting about The White Swan feels like recommending a favourite local spot to mates – it's got that warm, inviting feel that's hard to beat. From what I've gathered, the atmosphere really shines, particularly on weekends when live bands crank up the energy and turn it into a proper night out. The drinks selection is spot on too, with everything from cracking ales to creative cocktails and even solid non-alcoholic picks, so whether you're after a quick refresh or something special, it's covered. And the staff? Well, tales of attentive servers like Paul making birthdays memorable show they're all about that personal touch, which adds a lovely homely vibe. On the flip side, it does get a tad crowded sometimes, especially in the town centre, so if you're hoping for a peaceful corner, you might need to time it right. Oh, and while the drinks steal the show, food isn't mentioned much, so it might not be the best for a hearty dinner – perhaps stick to the pub grub if you're peckish, or pair it with something else. All in all, it's a solid pick for anyone wanting a good laugh and a decent drink in St Albans, and I'd say it's worth popping in for the experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing, especially on weekends with live bands that really get the crowd going.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers, ales, spirits, cocktails, and even decent non-alcoholic options to suit everyone.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive – stories of folks like Paul going above and beyond make it feel personal and welcoming.
-
Plenty of space inside with a well-laid-out interior, plus outdoor seating and a roof terrace that's perfect for sunny days.
-
It's got a relaxed vibe with good music, like 80s and 90s lounge tunes, making it a great spot to unwind.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy at times, which might make it feel a bit overwhelming if you're after a quiet pint.
-
Food doesn't seem to be a strong point – one regular mentioned they've never tried it, and it's not raved about in the chats I've seen, so it might not be the go-to for a full meal.

I've been going to this pub for years and have seen many changes over them years.
At the weekend, it has a great atmosphere especially with some great live bands.
A good selection of beers, ales, spirits and cocktails.
I can't comment on food, as I've never ate in there.
Stopped for a bank holiday afternoon. The interior is well spread out, so relatively quiet and private for a town centre pub. Good drinks selection, friendly service and good 80s/90s lounge music. A great place to refresh and relax.
Paul was the most polite, attentive and knowledgeable.
It was my birthday, we had a large group of people. Paul single handledly advised all of us on our cocktail choices. He was attentive and personable. He made our night special . Highly recommend the white Swan!
Visited the White Swan as we stopped for a break on a journey back from Norfolk after New Year celebrations. The best mulled wine we tasted over the whole Christmas season. Very friendly pub. Will definitely be back when in St.Albans again . .Well earned 5 stars. !!
Busy pub in St.Albans with lots of space. They have a roof terrace which gets full when the sun is out. They also have outdoor seating on the ground floor along with their cozy indoor seatings. We ordered a drink and relaxed outdoors. Had decent non-alcoholic options as well.
