About This Pub
Ah, Punchin' Palooka – it's one of those hidden gems in St Albans that really hits the spot for a relaxed drink with mates. From the reviews I've seen, folks are raving about the cocktails; they're creative, perfectly balanced, and come in fancy glassware that makes you feel a bit posh. The staff sound like absolute stars, always cheerful and helpful, whether it's whipping up a custom drink or sorting out a cab home – it's that personal touch that makes the place stand out. The atmosphere is spot on too, with a cosy bar for chats and a beer garden that's brilliant on a sunny afternoon. Prices are fair, and those little extras like free popcorn add a nice homely feel. On the flip side, it's not open every day, so you might find yourself disappointed if you're planning a spontaneous Sunday sesh, and it doesn't get going until the evening. Food-wise, it's more about snacks than a proper meal, and there have been a few mentions of things running out, which could be a minor letdown. Overall, it's a top choice for cocktail lovers looking for a good time, just remember to check the times and book ahead to avoid any hiccups!

We were a group of four and visited on
Saturday afternoon. It was a lovely sunny day so we sat in the beer garden just as the sun was setting. We all ordered a different cocktail and each was fabulous. Really well made and served in classy glassware with appropriate garnish! Service was warm, friendly and super professional. We felt very welcome and we would definitely return to sample more delightful cocktail
concoctions.
Do go, you will not be disappointed.
REALLY good cocktail list with plenty of choice and reflecting a strongly stocked cellar and they’ll make anything you ask for too. Sensible pricing; a Red Hook was £13.00 (Rye Whiskey, Sweet Vermouth and Maraschino Liqueur) and endless free popcorn.
Friendly and helpful staff and cool surroundings.
Amazing Coctails and beautiful food for our Xmas party ! We had the best time , thank you Alex and the team! We will be back !
Fab night here last night. Great cocktails (served to table), cosy atmosphere and our waiter did a great selfie with us AND booked us a cab home. Result!
Scored a 3 for food as we just ate nachos and they’d run out of nuts - not a biggie for us but wanted to mention!
PS Make sure you book because they get super busy!
I just love this spot so much. Sublime staff, even better cocktails. Menu is always fresh and original - but if you fancy something specific, they always make it. Their in-house jalapeno tequila is *chef's kiss* in a spicy marg. Gets better every time I visit :)
