About This Pub

Ah, The Boot – what a gem in St Albans! I've got to say, it's one of those places that really hits the spot for a proper pub outing. The food stands out as a real winner; think bold, carnival-like flavours in their tacos and dishes that leave you wanting more, just like a mate raving about their latest find. The service is another highlight – it's warm and efficient, with staff who make you feel right at home, even if there's a small hiccup here or there. And the atmosphere? It's got that classic pub charm that's inviting for everyone, whether you're there for a quick lunch or to soak in the local buzz. On the flip side, it can get a bit lively and noisy as the day goes on, which might not be ideal if you're after a peaceful pint. Plus, while the prices are fair, things can mount up if you're indulging in a full meal and drinks, so it's worth keeping an eye on the bill. Overall, it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts – the good far outweighs the minor niggles, and I'd happily recommend it for a memorable visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is an absolute delight, with unique and intense flavours that make you feel like you're at a lively carnival – especially those tacos, which are some of the best I've tried.
  • Service is spot on; it's friendly, quick, and the staff go out of their way to sort out any little issues, making the whole experience feel welcoming.
  • The atmosphere is charming and classic, like stepping into a proper old pub that's a favourite among locals, perfect for a relaxed lunch or a catch-up with mates.
  • Prices are generally reasonable for what you get, offering good value without breaking the bank, especially if you're just popping in for a few drinks.
Cons
  • It can get a bit noisy, particularly in the evenings or around dinner time, which might make it tricky for a quiet chat.
  • There are occasional glitches with service requests, like minor mix-ups that need sorting, though they're handled swiftly.
  • Meals and drinks can add up quickly, so it might feel a tad pricey for a casual visit, especially if you're tucking into a full spread.

For Cinco de mayo, I searched the three counties for a Mexican restaurant. This was one of the few results. The trip was well worth it. Flavours are very unique and intense, reminiscent of carnival street food. Service was very fast and friendly. Some glitches with requests, but easily resolved Highly recommend booking - tables were all full most of the time. The bar itself is still operational, but very full - despite which, bar service remained very prompt. I would encourage everybody to try this - it feels very authentic. Music was rock/soft metal, so not thematic but suitable for the venue. The Boot has always been a hub for town nightlife, so it is great to see it gaining a new dimension.

Really enjoyed the food. 6 tacos and a side each, plus drinks ended up being over £100 but it was worth it to see what the hype was about. Would go again

Pictures don't do it justice. Absolutely loved it! Great place for lunch. I think it would be too noisy for me around dinner or 2pm onwards. Great staff!!

We visited The Boot in St Albans yesterday for a few drinks, following a recommendation from the locals. As soon as you step in, you’re welcomed by its classic, medieval pub atmosphere, and it’s clear this is a favorite spot for locals. Prices are very reasonable, and the crowd spans all ages, adding to the pub’s inviting vibe. Everyone we met was polite and friendly, making us feel right at home. The pub is also conveniently located right in front of the famous Clock Tower, making it easy to find. A great spot to soak in the local charm!
