About This Pub

Ah, The White Lion – it's one of those places that just hits the spot when you're after a proper pub experience with a bit of class. I've got to say, the food really stands out; their seasonal menu is full of tasty, fresh options that pair brilliantly with a cold beer or a nice glass of wine, especially when you're soaking up the sun in that lovely garden or tucked away in one of the cosy beamed corners. The team there are an absolute treat – always smiling and ready to help, like when they turned a small error into a positive with extra perks on the house. It's spot on for everything from a quick coffee to a full-blown celebration, and being dog-friendly adds a nice touch for those family outings. On the flip side, you might run into the occasional slip-up, such as a billing blunder, but they handle it well, and if you're with pets, the weather could play spoilsport since indoor spots might not always be available. All in all, it's a solid choice for us lot who fancy a relaxed chat over drinks, with that homely charm that keeps you coming back, though it's worth checking ahead for any little niggles to make the most of your visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot-on – fresh, seasonal dishes that are perfect for a relaxed afternoon in the garden or a cosy evening indoors.
  • Service is warm and welcoming, with staff who go the extra mile to make you feel at home, like that time they sorted out a billing mix-up with free treats.
  • The atmosphere is charming and inviting, with a beautifully restored thatched building full of cosy nooks, plus lovely outdoor terraces and a secluded garden for al fresco dining.
  • It's a great spot for all sorts of occasions, from casual drinks to celebrations, and it's even dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out with your furry mate.
  • Easy to get to, just a short drive from Leamington Spa, and they've got a solid selection of beers, cocktails, and wines to suit every taste.
Cons
  • There might be the odd hiccup, like a mistake with the bill, though they do make amends quickly to keep things right.
  • If you're visiting with pets, outdoor seating could be your only option, which isn't ideal on a rainy day.
  • The Google photos are a bit outdated, so you might not get the full picture of how freshly done up the place is now.

Recent Reviews

This is an easy review to write, it's wonderful when you find a new 'go to' place and this one certainly qualifies! Great food, great service and great management. The first time we came they made a mistake with our bill and that was put right and more with free drinks and desserts on our second visit. Thank you Kia, your a credit to the team over there, see you soon!

We knew this pub from years ago and today we revisited it and very glad we did too: Walked in the front entrance to be met by a beaming smile from Hannah who immediately took control, listening to our needs, directed us to the best area for us and with her staff ordered and served an excellent meal with refreshments at a very good price. Thoroughly great experience with lots of humour and warmth . Looking forward to our next visit. Well Done !!

White Lion is an absolute gem of a gastropub, a place where rustic charm meets refined taste in a beautifully restored setting. Walking in, you’re immediately enveloped by the warmth and character of the space—there’s a palpable sense of history in every detail, yet the entire place feels refreshingly polished and elegant. It’s not just a restaurant; it feels like stepping into a thoughtfully crafted experience. The service? Impeccable. Every staff member seems genuinely invested in making your visit memorable, striking that perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive. They move seamlessly, anticipate needs before you’ve even thought of them, and all with a welcoming friendliness that feels both professional and heartfelt. It’s rare to feel this well looked after without a hint of pretense. Now, onto the main event—the legendary Sunday roast. It’s no exaggeration to say this might just be the pinnacle of comfort dining. The roast itself is flawless: tender, perfectly cooked meat with a golden-brown crust, alongside all the traditional trimmings elevated to new heights. The Yorkshire puddings are crispy and airy, the gravy rich and savory, and the vegetables cooked to perfection, retaining a freshness that’s often missing in classic pub fare. Each bite feels like an indulgence, like this is exactly what a Sunday roast is meant to taste like. White Lion isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a place to experience. With its stunning decor, exceptional service, and food that feels steeped in both tradition and passion, it’s the kind of restaurant that doesn’t just meet expectations—it redefines them.

If you look at google the photo is an old one as the pub as recently been done out so no breakfast as the chalk board says but they do morning coffee from 10am. On a recent visit found the place very nice staff were polite and accomadating food was all good no complaints. Their is a large room off the main pub for large parties of around 20 that can be closed off. The pub has arond 100 tables so plenty to choose from inside and out with garden and patio area.Toilets may be a little hard to find but they are clean and to a good order. Also dog friendly so good for walkers and people just dropping in.Not much more as i can say but a good pub and i had a good experience their so go along enjoy or not if you dont go you will never know.

I was down in Lemington from Manchester and did a little research to find a nice dog friendly pub for Sunday lunch before I headed back home and found the White Lion..I was in fact with my new kitten and the weather was not as good as promised. I had booked an outside table as no in door tables were available. The thoughtful host found a lovely table inside away from other dog owners which was a great start. I ordered the special 3 meat Sunday Roast. The meal arrived promptly and was delicious. I was also surprised when the host popped over with extra Yorkshire puds and roast potatoes. I had also been offered extra gravy which being a Northerner eagerly accepted. As I enjoyed the meal with perfectly pink beef So much I found a little room for an apple crumble. Not disappointed. Even the cappuccino was good with a side of smarties. Overall, a splendid experience and my only criticism is that it is too far from home to become my go to Sunday lunch venue.
