About This Pub
Ah, the White Hart Inn in Margaretting Tye – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are top-notch, always polite and making sure everyone feels at ease, which really sets the tone for a great night out. The food's a real highlight too; think hearty, tasty meals that come out hot and fresh, with options that'll satisfy all sorts of tastes – I hear the duck starter and scampi are absolute winners. Plus, it's spotlessly clean and spacious, ideal for popping in for a meal or celebrating something special in those cosy garden pods. On the flip side, though, service isn't always lightning-fast, so you might find yourself waiting a tad longer than you'd like, even with the friendly faces around. And honestly, a couple of folks have mentioned it doesn't quite capture the old-school charm it used to have after the redesign, which is a pity if you're after that authentic pub feel. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a bite, especially if you're in the area, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind for a balanced visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and so polite – they really make you feel welcome, like you're chatting with old mates.
-
The food is spot on, with plenty of choices and dishes that are hot, fresh, and beautifully presented – I'd recommend the hunters chicken burger or those vegetable spring rolls any day.
-
It's a clean, tidy, and spacious spot, perfect for a relaxed catch-up or even a special occasion like an anniversary in one of their garden pods.
-
The atmosphere has a nice country charm, especially after their redesign, making it feel fresh and inviting for a good old pub evening.
Cons
-
Service can drag a bit sometimes, like when you're waiting for your food or drinks, even if the team is friendly.
-
A few people reckon it's not quite the same as it used to be, with one review calling it a shadow of its former self after the changes, which is a bit of a shame.

Such a shame, this pub used to be the perfect blend of country charm, eclectic atmosphere and buzz.
Now it is a sorry reflection of its former self. The whole place has been redesigned nicely, not that it particularly needed it and the menu matches its sister restaurant in Little Waltham which has always been steady, however this place is consistently poor.
I have returned twice in the hope that they might get it right after some early teething problems , but if anything it has gotten worse. At first the food seemed to be ok but the service dreadfully slow, staff standing about, hardly busy, yet plates remain on tables for 20 mins, drinks orders forgotten, our first meal took nearly 3 hours to complete.
Today the pub was almost empty, food on the floors from previous sittings and almost zero attention from the staff.
Such a shame as it is in a fabulous location, the positive reviews are either for the original owners or faked by the new.
Go to one of the pubs in Stock instead!

Our first visit. We booked a table. Very friendly and polite staff. A very clean, tidy and spacious restaurant. Our food and drinks orders were taken quickly.
Plenty of choice on the menu. All our food was hot and nicely presented. We couldn't manage dessert.Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was very busy. Good choice of drinks. The toilets were very clean. Plenty of parking. There is also a rear entrance to the restaurant.
We have booked a family breakfast (12 people) in a few weeks time.

Had such a lovely evening celebrating mine and my husbands anniversary. Food was amazing, staff really friendly and nothing was a problem. We had our meal in one of the garden pods which was so nice. We will definitely be returning!

Not been here for a meal since it re opened to a traditional pub, it’s our local and we couldn’t be happier it’s back an better than ever. 3 courses an couldn’t fault one thing. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty! Duck starter was amazing and a large portion, scampi was to die for, the haddock was massive and burger was one of the best my husband has tasted. Staff were friendly and pleasant, wasn’t too busy being a week day so was lovely to enjoy a quite meal.
Beer festival in June, walking distance from home we can’t wait to enjoy many more meals an events back with our favourite pub
