About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The White Hart – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local favourite, tucked away in Headington with a real community spirit. I have to say, what stands out most is the food; their pies are legendary, with a variety that caters to everyone, from hearty meat options to vegan delights, and they're not just tasty but award-winning too. Pair that with their passion for real ales and craft beers, and you've got a lineup that beer enthusiasts will rave about. The walled garden is another highlight – it's such a lovely spot to soak up the sun with a drink in hand, especially on those warmer evenings. The staff really make the place shine; they're so welcoming and chatty, which adds to that relaxed, homely atmosphere. On the flip side, it's not exactly in the city centre, so it might take a bit of effort to get to if you're coming from further afield, and with openings only from noon, it's not ideal for early birds. Plus, snagging a table can mean phoning ahead, which isn't always convenient. All in all, it's a solid choice for a great night out – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for the grub and the vibes, but just keep those little niggles in mind for a smoother visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The pies are an absolute treat – award-winning and packed with flavour, like the steak and ale or the vegan options, making it a foodie's paradise.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of real ales and craft beers, earning them spots in the Good Beer Guide and even Oxford CAMRA Pub of the Year.
-
The walled garden is a real suntrap, perfect for relaxing with a pint or a glass of wine on a summer day – it's one of the best pub gardens in Oxford.
-
It's incredibly dog-friendly; they roll out the red carpet for furry friends, which is brilliant if you're out with your pooch.
-
The staff are friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile and helpful advice, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Cons
-
It's a bit out of the way in Headington, so if you're not local, you might need to plan a trip rather than popping in spontaneously.
-
They only open from midday, which means it's not the spot for a cheeky breakfast or early morning catch-up.
-
Bookings are by phone only due to high demand, which can be a faff if you're not keen on calling ahead.

An absolute gem of a pub in the heart (Hart?!) of beautiful Old Headington. The food is absolutely out of this world! This is our second time eating here and it's already become a firm favourite. The pies are unbelievably delicious. We can recommend the Chicken, Ham Hock and Leek pie, as well the Beef with Clawson Stilton. On our previous visit we thoroughly enjoyed the Tiger Beer Battered Fish, as well as the Baby Back Ribs. Honestly, I think everything on the menu will be excellent. Everything about this place is just right: fabulous food, friendly and knowledgeable staff, great atmosphere, spacious beer garden, all wrapped up in a picturesque pub. Thank you to Xavier and all the staff, you're all awesome!
One of the best Sunday roasts I’ve ever had — highly recommended.
I stopped by this pub yesterday for a drink and had a fantastic time! The atmosphere was really cool and relaxed, perfect for unwinding. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. I also loved the interior design – it had a great vibe and felt very inviting. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a spot with good drinks, a nice atmosphere, and great service. Will definitely be back! 🍻😊
What an absolute little Gem 💎 this place is.
Sunday roast, fit for a King 🤴
And our server, Willow, was fantastic.
So friendly and so helpful on things totally unrelated to our visit there on the day.
She was a true super star 🌟 ✨️
Cosy, great atmosphere and staff were very friendly. Didn't try the food yet but their menu for dogs looks delicious! On that note, it's an extremely dog friendly pub and they were very happy to see ours.
Will definitely be going there more often and look forward to trying their pies :)
