About This Pub

You know, when I think about The White Bear, it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles on a chilly evening in Ruislip. The food is spot on – we're talking fresh, seasonal dishes and those cracking Sunday roasts that leave you feeling properly satisfied. The staff are an absolute delight, always cheerful and ready to help, which makes the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. Plus, with its cosy nooks, log fires, and even a heated garden area with blankets, it's ideal for catching up with mates over a well-chosen pint or cocktail. They've got events like quiz nights and live music to keep things lively, so it's great for a proper get-together. On the downside, it's a bit more expensive than your run-of-the-mill boozer, and it does lean towards being a dining spot rather than just a place for a quick drink, which might not suit everyone if you're keeping an eye on the budget or fancy something more laid-back. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're up for treating yourself, but worth noting the extras if you're planning a visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, especially the Sunday roasts and seasonal dishes – they really know how to make everything taste fresh and hearty.
  • The staff are so friendly and attentive, always making you feel right at home with their polite service.
  • It's got a lovely cosy atmosphere with log fires, colourful nooks, and even heated outdoor seating with blankets for a bit of alfresco fun.
  • A great selection of drinks on offer, from well-poured pints and British beers to an expertly curated wine list and tasty cocktails.
  • They've got regular events like quiz nights, live music, and happy hours, which add a real buzz and make it perfect for a night out.
Cons
  • It's on the pricey side, so if you're after a quick, affordable pint, you might find it a bit steep compared to your average local.
  • The place feels more focused on dining than just casual drinking, which could make it seem a tad formal if you're not in the mood for a full meal.
  • Some folks have mentioned minor niggles, like the cost of extras or it not being the best for a spontaneous drop-in.

Visited in March 2025: First time visit to this gastropub and was not disappointed. Service was polite and friendly. The pub is more aimed for the diners judging by the layout. There was comfortable seating inside and a heated seating at the rear. There were complimentary blankets provided on the chairs already- which was a nice touch. Food was decent - nice take on classic bar staples; particular favourites were the scotch eggs and spicy potato pasty. The Welsh rarebit wasn’t our favourite and a little bland for our liking. The price is expensive for the drinks; one round of 2 x double G&T’s and 1 large White Wine came to £48. So good to know if you’re on a budget. Would come back again in the future to try their main menu.

We came for the Sunday Roast for our Anniversary.... We were sat in a cosy warm part of the restaurant. Wow.... It was really yummy. My Husband had the Chicken Roast My Daughter and I had the Lamb Roast All dishes were freshly cooked and very tasty. The vegetables and Yorkshire Pudding really well cooked. We asked for extra vegetables and were given more with no extra cost. Catlin was Amazing so Helpful with a happy smile and she knew the menu really well she also had good knowledge of the drinks menu. She made sure everything was well for us. All 3 of us were happy and definitely coming back to try the Main menu.

We have visited the place several times for a beer 🍺 and it has beautiful atmosphere. It is a traditional pub with British beers (and more) and a more of a classy style. We also had our New Year eve celebration there. Nice decoration, live music (not so festive), ala carte tasteful dishes. Overall a great choice.

The White Bear is definitely the best pub food in the area. Always had a decent meal served by friendly staff. My girlfriend and I go regularly - but I felt the need to add a review after reading so many nitpickers in these comments whinging about such minor grievances. The food is a few quid more than most surrounding pubs, but definitely of a better quality than any pub for miles. There was a little bit of lipstick on my glass last time I went - but who honestly cares? I asked them to change it and they apologised and swapped it immediately. Bravo!

The white bear is our most frequented local watering hole. Great range of seasonal dishes, fantastic Sunday lunches (with extra sides if needed!), great range of drinks. Service has always been outstanding. Warm atmosphere. Suitable for all.
