About This Pub
Ah, The Orchard Beefeater – it's one of those pubs that feels like a reliable old mate, tucked away on Ickenham Road in Ruislip. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food really shines through; that Sunday roast is a winner, all juicy and flavoursome, and the menu's got such a variety that you're spoilt for choice. The staff can be absolute gems too, making sure everything runs smoothly and adding a nice touch to your meal. Plus, it's clean and spacious, with spots perfect for catching up with friends or family. On the flip side, though, it's a bit of a mixed bag – if you rock up without booking, you might find yourself queuing at the bar to order, which isn't ideal for a relaxed evening. And honestly, some grub doesn't quite live up to the hype, like the ribs that seem a touch reheated rather than freshly done. I've heard from a few that it's lost a bit of its sparkle lately, which is gutting after all those years of being a go-to spot. Still, with a moderate price tag and that easy parking, it's worth giving it a go if you're in the area – just keep your expectations balanced and maybe plan ahead for the best experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is generally spot on, especially their Sunday roast which comes highly recommended – it's a proper hearty meal that hits the spot.
-
Service can be brilliant when it's on form; the staff are often friendly and efficient, making you feel right at home.
-
It's got a lovely, clean atmosphere with plenty of space, including areas for larger groups, which is great for a casual get-together.
-
Parking is straightforward, so you can pop in without the hassle of finding a spot on the street.
-
The menu has loads of choices, giving you plenty of options whether you're after a quick bite or something more substantial.
Cons
-
If you don't book ahead, you might end up in a self-service area, which feels a bit like you're in a Wetherspoons – not quite the full pub experience.
-
Some dishes, like the ribs, can taste a tad pre-cooked, which takes away from that fresh, homemade feel you'd hope for.
-
It's a shame, but the place seems to have gone downhill in recent years, with a few visitors noting it's not as good as it used to be, perhaps due to busier times straining the service.
-
On occasion, the staff are doing their best but can get overwhelmed, leading to a less smooth visit overall.

You can drive there and park, to eat and drink. I believe you need to book the table, otherwise you will be offered to sit in the area without the service, if it's not too busy. There, you'll need to self order food and drink at the bar. Similar to Wetherspoons restaurant. The food will be brought to your numbered table. We had a beef sirloin, but with a disappointment due to very thin slices of the beef. Food was kind of tasteless, unless you added plenty of salt, pepper, sauces like ketchup, mayo or a mustard. Good wine though. There was not much of the service, so can't give more stars for it.
Such a shame!
I've been coming to the beefeater for the last 30+ years but not been since the whole COVID thing and decided to come this evening as I've been wanting to visit for a bit.
I feel gutted at how bad this place has become. The two ladies serving are doing their best but it's an impossible ask to expect them to take orders, bring food, clean up and take payment.
There is a feeling that either management or higher up want this place to go down to the point of being unviable so they can sell it off for development.
My starter was fair though not the crunchy coated wings I expected; more soggy but at least a modicum of flavour. My main however was dreadful:
The lettuce was old, dried, brown and completely unappealing, the fries were cold; having seen our meal sitting at the food station for a long period of time waiting to be collected by the staff, the jacket potato the same and the chicken just covered in BBQ sauce in some vain attempt at imparting some flavour.
My partner's burger was just about edible though the bun itself felt like it had just been defrosted.
I complained to the manger who was amiable though didn't seem surprised so no doubt I'm not the first to raise an issue.
I'm so disappointed to have had this experience, I have really fond memories of coming here on early dates with my partner, birthday celebrations, getting to know old members of staff like Mo, Anne, Emily and Linda, being somewhere to go for a dinner after a long day at work knowing we'd get a good feed at a reasonable price but I feel this will be the last time I go there for a meal unless something dramatic happens to improve it.
The ladies serving us couldn't have done more, they're trying to do their best and i feel bad for them that they're being let down by incompetent management.
I really hope there's improvement.
Excellent place to visit for lunch or anytime meal.. Service was perfect (Maritana) food amazing and ambience lovely.. All very clean and i could see a designated area for parties and larger groups.. Will definitely be back again very soon.. A must visit.. The menu choice was very extensive too
The safety measures imposed to implement social distancing is strict and very good. The food does taste lovely--especially their Sunday Roast. Last time I went there with my family, we also tried their desserts too (not all, just some ;) ) Below are some of the photos from my visit (it includes the desserts we ordered at the end!
The staff were the highlight of this place. I was part of a large group of 7 or 8 and our orders were taken accurately and efficiently. We weren't made to feel like an inconvenience. The ribs were tender but they did taste pre cooked. Overall the food was better than the usual pub food but was still pub food if that makes sense.
