About This Pub
Ah, The West Riding in Scarborough – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a warm hug when you step inside, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and the website, it's got this fantastic community spirit where the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, serving up drinks with a smile and even throwing in free snacks like sandwiches, which is a lovely bonus for a quick bite. The live sports on multiple screens make it a top spot for game days, and at such great value prices, you won't feel guilty about a few rounds. Plus, that beer garden is a winner on sunny days. On the flip side, it does get packed during peak times, so you might end up jostling for space, and if you're hoping for a full meal rather than just nibbles, it might not quite hit the mark. Overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening; I'd say give it a go if you're in the area – it's got that honest, no-fuss charm that makes for a memorable visit, but just keep an eye on the opening times to avoid any mix-ups.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, welcoming, and full of smiles, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
Drinks are incredibly good value; it's a proper budget-friendly spot where you can enjoy a cold pint without breaking the bank.
-
They've got loads of screens showing live sports like football, rugby, and horse racing, so it's ideal for catching the big games with a group of mates.
-
The atmosphere is spot on – it's got that classic old-school pub vibe with good music, a pool table for a cheap game, and even free snacks like sandwiches that add a nice touch.
-
There's a beer garden for when the weather's nice, perfect for getting a bit breezy and boozy outdoors.
Cons
-
It can get really busy at times, especially on weekends or during events, which might make it a bit cramped and hard to find a seat.
-
The food options seem limited to just snacks and sandwiches, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to head elsewhere.
-
The operating hours listed online are a tad confusing with multiple entries, which could leave you scratching your head about when it's actually open.
-
As it's more of a traditional pub, the decor might feel a bit dated for those who prefer something more modern or fancy.

I read about this pub before we (4 of us from Nottingham) went. So I gave it a go, and went to watch the Cheltenham Festival there. Proper old school vibes, friendly staff, plenty of screens, good music when the racing was'nt on, and a pool table. Some sandwiches and other snacks were put out at one point and we were told to help ourselves. Very welcoming, Thankyou.
It was very busy on a Friday afternoon in December. Probably because the drinks are extremely good value.
The staff in this pub are friendly, accommodating and bring a happy upbeat atmosphere, making the pub a family friendly place where you can have a brilliant day or night. Staff always serve with a smile and willingness to help in any way they can
First time coming in and felt welcomed by the bar staff, a nice atmosphere, and serving up sandwiches for customers for free was a great touch, and I must say they were lovely too. I would definitely recommend and come back next time I visit Scarborough. Many thanks.
