About This Pub
Ah, The Welsh Princess – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local haunt, tucked away in Rayne near Braintree. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food is spot on; think homemade lasagne or a gourmet burger that's piping hot and full of flavour, all without breaking the bank. It's got that welcoming atmosphere going for it too, with a fresh refurb that makes the place feel inviting, and extras like a pool table and dart board add to the fun without overwhelming things. The staff really shine here – they're helpful and go the extra mile, whether it's for kids or your furry friend, which makes it feel inclusive and homely. On the flip side, it can be quiet now and then, so if you're in the mood for a energetic night, it might not quite deliver. Plus, being on the main road means it could get a bit noisy, and without a website, sorting out details beforehand is a hassle. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for a laid-back meal and a pint with mates – I'd say give it a try if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the minor niggles.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is homemade and absolutely delicious, with options like lasagne and gourmet burgers that hit the spot every time, and it's all at reasonable prices.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, thanks to a recent refurb that gives it a cosy feel, complete with a pool table and dart board for a bit of fun.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive – they'll even bring a water bowl and biscuits for your dog, making it a great spot for families or those with pets.
-
It's easy to get to, right on the main road, and sometimes they host live music or events, which adds a nice touch to the evening.
-
With a solid 4.6 rating from plenty of folks, it's clear this place knows how to make visitors feel right at home.
Cons
-
It can be a bit quiet at times, so if you're after a lively, buzzing crowd, you might find it a tad subdued.
-
The pub looks small from the outside, which could mean it's not ideal for larger groups or when it's busy.
-
There's no website listed, so it's a bit tricky to check out menus or events in advance – you'd have to pop in or use Google.
-
The operating hours seem a touch inconsistent from what I've seen, which might catch you out if you're planning a visit.

Popped in for light lunch and it was delicious and very reasonable 👍
Came with a friend, the pub was quiet, we sat outside. We ordered food. The food arrived, it was home made , it was hot and it was very nice. I had the lasagne with chips, my friend had gourmet burger and chips.
Visited here to see a great local band City Sounds and although this was our 1st visit here it definitely will not be the last. It's situated on the main road so access is very easy and simple to find. It looks tiny from the outside but has a real 'TRdis' feel about it. The place was quite busy but a space was opened up at the bar and we were greeted warmly by the bar staff and ordered our drinks. The prices were quite reasonable with a pint and a short coming in at just under £8.
The atmosphere was pleasant and we could see it was a friendly local pub with a happy vibe. Although we had not eaten there the menu for bar meals seemed to be the nice usual favourites at very reasonable prices.
Overall it was a positive experience from start to finish and can very much give a solid 5 stars to them, well done all round team.
Such a lovely pub! It’s clearly had a recent refurb. Great atmosphere, pool table and dart board towards the back of pub. Child and dog friendly. Staff were really helpful, they brought over a water bowl for my dog and a few biscuits. Will definitely be returning.
Nice friendly pub in the village of Rayne. Great atmosphere and good food.
