About This Pub
Ah, The Wellington – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its charm, isn't it? From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it's a real winner for anyone who appreciates a good pint of ale; they've got this ever-changing beer board that's always full of surprises, and the staff are just lovely, making sure everyone feels welcome from the get-go. The outdoor terrace is a brilliant spot to relax with friends, especially on a mild evening, and those pub cats wandering about add a bit of whimsy that puts a smile on your face. Prices are fair too, which is a relief in the city centre. On the flip side, it's not the place for a hearty meal – just some snacks on hand, so you might want to pop in with your own grub or grab something nearby. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up; you'd be hard-pressed not to enjoy it, but it's best if you're in the mood for drinks over dinner.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
A fantastic selection of real ales that changes regularly, making every visit feel fresh and exciting.
-
Friendly and welcoming staff who make you feel right at home, adding to the cosy atmosphere.
-
A lovely outdoor terrace for enjoying a pint in the fresh air, perfect for a sunny day in Birmingham.
-
Reasonably priced drinks, especially for a city centre spot, so you won't break the bank.
-
The added charm of pub cats roaming around, which gives the place a unique and heart-warming feel.
-
They're flexible with food – you can bring your own or order in, with plates and cutlery from the bar, which is a nice touch for a casual outing.
Cons
-
No full food menu on offer, just pub snacks, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to plan ahead.
-
It's very much a drinks-focused venue, which could feel a bit limited if you're not in the mood for ale or spirits.

Fantastic choice of ales and friendly staff. Loads of seating including an outdoor terrace area. Love this place, one of my favourites in Birmingham.
Excellent traditional pub with extensive range of ales, ciders and whiskeys. No food served here just pub snacks. Customers are allowed to take in their own food or order in takeout. Plates and cutlery supplied by the bar. Highly recommend a visit here.
Our favourite pub in Birmingham. Has a fantastic selection of real ales and the added bonus of a couple of friendly cats roaming around the pub! We mainly go each week to see the cats, but the beer is also fantastic and atmosphere is very friendly with very welcoming staff.
Absolutely love this place - it's been my go-to pub in Birmingham since I moved here.
The staff are friendly and welcoming, there is a good selection of drinks, it's reasonably priced (especially for a city centre pub), the atmosphere is cosy.
The highlight of any visit is spotting the pub cats, Malt and Hops - it's just an instant happiness boost to have a drink next to two adorable kitties, and that keeps me coming back again and again.
This pub contributed greatly to my decision to pick Birmingham as my new residency. I have this idea that you can tell a good place by checking its pubs, and after living in the South for 10 years I needed some change. Birmingham has so many nice pubs, and after sampling a few places, I quickly got drawn to The Wellington. Central location, gorgeous interior and style, friendly guest and staff members, record number of hand pulls and most importantly, they keep their real ales fresh. This pub introduced me to the beers of Black Country Ales and gave me a new favourite, the BFG. I will be forever thankful to the gentleman who recommended me this beer on my first day of visit. The pub also has two cats. They are not in your face and you can consider yourself lucky if they come to you. If you're allergic or just dislike them, please show your support for other pubs in the area instead of complaining about this.
