About This Pub
Ah, The Briar Rose – it's one of those places that really hits the mark for a laid-back evening or a budget-friendly overnight in Birmingham. I have to say, what stands out most is how central it is; you're slap bang in the middle of everything, making it dead easy to pop in after exploring the city or heading back from the station. The value for money is spot on too – you're getting decent food and drinks without emptying your wallet, and if you're kipping over, the rooms are surprisingly comfortable with those plush beds and top-notch showers that leave you feeling refreshed. Plus, the staff are an absolute gem; they're quick on their feet, sorting out orders and tidying up without you even having to ask, which just makes the whole experience that bit smoother. On the flip side, though, it's not perfect – the lighting in the rooms can be a bit underwhelming, leaving things a touch dark if you're not a fan of moody atmospheres. And let's not forget the TV playing up with buffering issues, which might put a dampener on your downtime. Without air con, it can get a wee bit warm, and you might hear the odd noise from next door or outside, even with those soundproof windows. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after something straightforward and affordable, but it's worth keeping those little drawbacks in mind for a more enjoyable visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The location is absolutely spot on, right in the heart of Birmingham and just a short stroll from the train station, making it super convenient for a night out or a quick getaway.
-
It's all about that great value – think affordable prices on food, drinks, and even hotel stays, with a cracking breakfast that won't break the bank.
-
The staff are really on the ball, working quickly and efficiently to get you served without any fuss, and they're prompt at clearing tables too.
-
The rooms are a treat if you're staying over, with comfy beds, brilliant showers, and nice little freebies like tea, coffee, and hot chocolate available throughout.
-
The food and drinks are solid quality for what you're paying, and it's got that classic Wetherspoons vibe that makes you feel right at home.
Cons
-
The lighting in the rooms can be a tad dim, which might make it feel a bit gloomy if you're trying to relax or get ready.
-
The TV in the rooms has a habit of buffering, so it might not be the best for catching up on your favourite shows without interruptions.
-
There's no air conditioning, which could leave things a bit stuffy on warmer days, especially since the rooms can get cosy.
-
Even with soundproof windows, you might still pick up some noise from neighbours or the street, so it's not the quietest spot if you're after total peace.

Absolutely brilliant. Amazing location. Great typical spoons downstairs, but hotel is fantastic too. Great rooms. Brilliant shower. Comfy beds. Cheap breakfast in the morning as it's a spoons! Fantastic value. Only place I will now stay in Birmingham
I always like this place as the staff often works fast and efficiently.
Need not to wait for long time for buying food at the cashier ( till ).
Once the staff notice there are plates and glasses to collect from the tables, swiftly they would come and take them away. Well done.
Stayed here for 3 nights from 13th Feb 2025. Lovely room, nice and warm hotel, guests get free tea, coffee, and hot chocolate throughout the bar/ hotel. Not just in the room. Food and drink good quality, but with wetherspoons prices. Location nice and central, and easy walk from train station.
Staff friendly and helpful. Tucker on the desk was very helpful. Saw food being served till quite late, and the staff running everywhere to serve. Really fast service. Left a £10 tip for them.
Will definitely be going there again
Well done people
It's a good value place to stay.
The rooms are ok and have power points with tea making facilities, but a poor level of brightness from the lighting. Also, the TV works on most channels; but does keep buffering.
The room was room and there doesn't seem to be any air conditioning, but it appeared to be clean, even though it's a very dated decor.
The mattress was a bit springy and every move on one side is felt by your partner on the other side.
Tea and coffee are free and you can get a decent Flat White coffee downstairs at any time of day.
The bathroom is dated but functional.
The pub does tend to attract a football fan type crowd, and there were a few down and outs blocking the entrance when we arrived, so while it's a central location that's ideal for the station, it's not the most salubrious of places so can be a little Dickensian and intimidating for some people.

Came here for a birthday/Christmas market weekend.
Heard good things and wasn't disappointed.
Rooms were well lit, free treats were good, windows were soundproof but you could still hear your neighbours and slight street music.
We ordered breakfast to the room and it was really scrummy.
The shower could have been hotter but that might be down to me being a weird female.... ha ha!
Even though they were really busy, the receptionist was so lovely and still smiling through the stress, bless her.
Definitely recommend this place 👌
