About This Pub

Ah, The Old Joint Stock – it's one of those places that just sticks with you after a visit. Tucked away in Birmingham, this pub and theatre combo is set in a beautiful old building that's full of character, from the ornate decor to that impressive glass dome overhead, which really sets the scene for a proper British pub experience. The staff are usually spot on, greeting you with a smile and making the place feel welcoming, and they've got a solid lineup of drinks that cater to all sorts, including some fun twists like tea-infused ales that might just surprise you. It's always buzzing with energy, which is great for soaking up the atmosphere or catching a show, but on the downside, things can get a bit hectic during peak times, and I've heard a few grumbles about the service not being as attentive as it could be, or certain menu items feeling a touch expensive for what's on the plate. All in all, it's a brilliant spot for a night out with friends, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe plan ahead for a table – you'll likely have a cracking time!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic building is an absolute stunner, with its Grade II listed features and that magnificent glass dome that makes you feel like you're stepping back in time.
  • The staff are generally so friendly and welcoming, really adding to that cosy, homely vibe that makes you want to linger.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, including unique ones like tea-infused ale, so there's something to suit every taste.
  • The atmosphere is lively and buzzing, perfect for a good catch-up with mates or enjoying a show in their theatre space.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit inconsistent at times, not always as attentive as you'd hope, which might leave you waiting a tad longer than expected.
  • Some dishes, like the steak and ale pie, feel a bit overpriced for what you get, so it might not hit the spot if you're watching your wallet.
  • It gets pretty busy, especially on weekends, so you might need to book ahead to snag a table and avoid the crowds.

Really nice pub in a grand old building , loads of character. The teainfused ale was a surprise hit, Good range of drinks overall, something for everyone. Staff were friendly, helpful, and just made the place feel welcoming. Would definitely go again.

A truly charming English pub! The ambiance and interior have a wonderfully retro feel, almost like stepping back in time. I really appreciated the atmosphere. The beer selection is noteworthy, with a great variety to suit all tastes. The service wasn't particularly attentive during our visit, but this might have been due to the rather early hour. Overall, a positive experience, especially for the atmosphere and the choice of beers

A relatively fancy pub, attracting a mix of sit-in diners and groups standing around the bar. Lively atmosphere & charming interior. Busy on a Satuday afternoon, so would recommend reserving a table in advance if you want a meal. The steak and ale pie was alright but not worth the £19 price - have had a lot of better pies elsewhere. My friend really enjoyed their fish and chips though.

Probably the best Fuller’s pub I’ve been to. The selection on tap is mostly the same as you’d expect, but The Old Joint Stock Pub stands out for a few reasons: The bar staff were really friendly and welcoming, which is always a pleasant surprise for Londoners visiting other cities in the UK—and definitely appreciated. The food was also great.. Classic pub food done well and with an interesting twist - we had the macaroni bites, chicken and roast potatoes with marmite, plus a cub sandwich, washed down with Frontier and Guinness. The pies looked great too. Despite being a city centre pub, it had a relaxed vibe with excellent service bringing the food to the table, cutlery, etc. It’s clear they take service seriously. Another unique aspect of the pub is the theatre upstairs, which adds to the uniqueness. Even though it’s owned by a brewery chain, it has its own distinctive style. The decor is well thought out, with a lovely connection to its history, and there are no TVs or other elements that can ruin classic pub old interiors. The other customers were a mix of colleagues after work, dates, and small groups of people— all respectful. There was a nice buzz about the place, but it wasn’t hectic or frustrating to get served. We stayed for about an hour and a half and had a great time.

After seeing The Old Joint Stock Pub & Theatre on social media we just had to visit. As soon as you walk through the door, the decor and huge glass dome above takes your breath away. The decor is very opulent. We dined on the upper floor. The food was very well presented and the pie for two to share was super tasty. One of us has dairy allergy and the staff were very attentive and pointed out various dishes which had certain dairy requirements. I would give more stars if I could. All round, our visit was perfect in every way. A big thank you to all staff and I can guarantee that we will return 😀
