About This Pub

Ah, The Waterwitch – what a gem of a spot down by the canal in Lancaster. I've got to say, it's one of those places that just draws you in with its peaceful waterside setting and that welcoming vibe; you can picture yourself settling in for a relaxed afternoon or evening. The food's generally a highlight – think fresh, homemade dishes with options for everyone, including some cracking vegan and veggie choices – and paired with a good range of beers and wines, it's easy to see why so many people rave about it. Plus, with regular events like quiz nights and special evenings for burgers or pizzas, there's always something going on to liven things up. On the flip side, though, it can get pretty hectic at times, leading to waits that might put a dampener on your plans, and the outdoor space isn't the most accessible for those with mobility needs, which is a shame. And while most reviews are positive, there are a few gripes about inconsistent food quality, like that underwhelming burger someone had. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with an open mind and maybe avoid the peak times for the best experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers, wines, and homemade dishes, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options to choose from.
  • Regular events like quiz nights, burger evenings, and pizza specials add a fun buzz and give you more reasons to pop in.
  • The food is generally spot on, with fresh, tasty meals that have earned them a solid overall rating.
Cons
  • It can get really busy, especially on popular nights, which means longer waits for food and drinks.
  • The outdoor area might be a bit tricky to navigate if you're using a stick, pushing a buggy, or in a wheelchair, due to the crowds and setup.
  • Some folks have had mixed experiences with the food – like that disappointing burger someone mentioned, which wasn't up to scratch.
  • Recent feedback shows it's not always hitting the mark, with a lower average rating lately, so it might vary depending on when you go.

There are an infinite number of other places worth eating at before here. Ordered the Cheese Burger and Fries off the lunchtime special. Ironic use of the word special, as there was nothing remotely unique not good about the food. The burger came, literally inside a bread bun and nothing else (but disappointment). The fries may or may not have been potatoes at some point in their life before being fried to an inch of their sorry lives. The hospital next door probably serves better food than the dinner served here. Shame, as the pub itself is lovely little place.

The Water Witch in Lancaster is a real gem. The food was excellent — freshly prepared, well-presented, and full of flavor. The pub itself has a lovely atmosphere, warm and inviting, with a great mix of locals and visitors. The location by the canal adds a really nice touch, especially if you get a table with a view. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing

Nice pub, decent grub, by the canal, just gets very busy which can lead to longer waiting times. Outside can be difficult for walking if using sticks or with buggies/wheelchair etc and busy with clientele drinking/eating at canalside tables.
