About This Pub

Ah, Ring O' Bells – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a hidden treasure in the heart of Lancaster, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this brilliant beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun or enjoying a quiet chat on a nice day, and it's often praised as the best in town. The place has that authentic, old-school charm without all the fancy updates, which is refreshing if you're after a proper pint in a relaxed setting. Prices are spot on for a budget-friendly night out, and the option to bring in your own food from local spots adds a nice touch of flexibility. On the downside, though, it's cash only these days, which might catch you out if you're relying on your card, and the beer choices are a bit limited, so it might not satisfy everyone. Plus, no food on offer means you'll have to plan ahead if you're hungry. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together, but I'd say it's best suited for those who appreciate the simple pleasures of a traditional pub – just make sure to check it's open, as the latest word suggests it might be closed at the moment.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer garden is an absolute standout – it's spacious, lovely, and often hailed as the best in Lancaster for a relaxing pint on a sunny day.
  • It's a proper traditional pub with a warm, friendly vibe that hasn't been overly modernised, making it feel like a real local gem.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, offering great value for a casual catch-up with mates.
  • You can bring your own food from nearby spots, which is a handy perk if you're peckish.
  • There are fun extras like a decent pool table and a good quality dartboard, perfect for a bit of friendly competition.
Cons
  • It's cash only, which can be a bit of a nuisance if you're out and about without any notes or coins.
  • The beer selection is on the small side, so if you're after a wide variety, you might be disappointed.
  • They don't serve food on-site, which is a shame if you're looking for a full pub experience with grub.
  • Some folks have mentioned the glassware isn't up to scratch, like with the gin glasses, which takes away from the finer details.

Great little spot to have cheap drinks in a fab outdoor area on a glorious day! Shame they can't afford to have nice gin glasses

A friendly, local-style pub in the City centre, it's not been "modernised" and ruined. A notice on the door says that they don't serve food but, if you're having a drink, you can bring in your own from one of the many local food places! They have a fabulous beer garden - of quite a size - up old, worn stone steps at the back. You can really see how great it could be in summer to escape up there.

Proper pub. Cash only, good but small selection of beers and the by far the best beer garden in Lancaster. Pool table is decent and they have good quality dartboard. Always a good spot for the music fest or if you're just looking for a friendly place for a pint
