About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Walton Arms – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a breath of fresh air, tucked away in Warrington with its impressive brick building and that lovely Tudor-style front. I was looking through the reviews, and it's clear folks are raving about the food; one chap mentioned it was among the best pub meals he's had, with standout dishes like sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie that sound spot on. The staff come across as genuinely warm and helpful, making you feel right at home, which is always a plus when you're settling in for a meal. It's got all the trimmings of a great country spot too – think beautiful gardens for a summer drink or cosy log fires in winter, and it's perfectly placed near canals and nature walks, so you could pop in after a wander. That said, it's not all perfect; a few reviews pointed out that service can slow down when it's packed, like one person who waited ages between courses on a busy day, which might put a dampener on things if you're in a rush. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating overall, it's obvious most people leave with a smile, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after a proper pub experience – just maybe plan for a more relaxed outing to avoid any waits.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious – think hearty pub classics like beef pie and lamb shank that really hit the spot, with plenty of positive feedback on the flavours and portions.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, always going the extra mile to make your visit enjoyable, even when things get busy.
-
It's got a charming, cosy atmosphere with beautiful gardens, crackling log fires, and stunning architecture that makes it feel like a proper country escape.
-
Fantastic location near canals, nature reserves, and walking paths, plus it's dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out for a stroll with your furry friend.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit slow during peak times, like on Mother's Day, where waits between courses might stretch things out longer than you'd hope.
-
It gets quite crowded when it's busy, which might make for a less relaxed experience if you're after a quiet pint.
-
The pub's operating status seems a tad unclear from what I've seen, but based on the schedule, it's generally open, though that could lead to the odd mix-up.

This is a great pub to stop at, especially if you are using a "Narrow Boat" on the canal.
We stopped by late in 2023, and I forgot to review, but we had a fantastic meal and the staff were very accommodating. Lovely architecture and surrounding countryside. Don't miss great stop.
Went for mother's day. Very busy as expected. Staff were rushed off their feet but still delivered good service.
Food was fine and plentiful.
Went for mother's day lunch, food was incredible but came very slow, only 2 of us and we were there for 3 and a half hours, waiting for food for 30 mins at least between courses. Service was good, as I said, again just slow but no faults with the manners of the staff at all. I would go again, but maybe just on a whim, not for a set meal
We visited on Friday January 17th and had great friendly service from Maxine. Our delicious meals were prepared by chefs Kal & Dale! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, which brightened up a rather grey January afternoon! Anne & John Tilling.
One of the best pub meals we ever had! We had patė to start with, for mains we had a beef pie and a lamb shank, and for the desert a sticky toffee pudding and a chocolate brownie. All of the food was delicious, not a single complaint. The atmosphere was nice, cozy, and clean. We thought it was pricier than other pubs, but worth it. We were served by Max and Jack, whom provided a great service. Though, we didn’t meet our chefs Kallum and Jonno, we enjoyed their food very much. We definitely recommend and will come back again.
