About This Pub
Ah, The Stag at Walton – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper get-together. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the food is a real standout; think beautifully presented dishes made with fresh, local produce that leave you feeling satisfied without breaking the bank. The staff are an absolute delight, always on hand with a smile and quick service that makes the whole place feel like a friendly local haunt. It's got that cosy, renovated charm that elevates it from your average boozer, making it ideal for everything from a casual afternoon tea to more poignant events like memorials. On the flip side, it does get bustling, especially on weekends, so you might find yourself waiting a bit if you haven't booked ahead. And while the prices are fair for what you get, it could feel a tad steep if you're just popping in for a quick pint. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub lovers – worth a visit for the good vibes and grub, but keep an eye on those opening times to make the most of it!
Pros and Cons

-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
-
It's got a lovely, cosy vibe with recent renovations that have really spruced the place up, perfect for a relaxed meal or even special events like wakes.
-
They offer fantastic value for money, from hearty breakfasts and afternoon teas to cocktails and fine ales – it's all spot on for a good night out.
-
The drink selection is brilliant, with great options for wines, beers, and those spectacular cocktails that add a bit of flair to any visit.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy at times, which might mean a bit of a wait even if the service is generally efficient.
-
The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any disappointment if you're planning a visit.
-
As a gastro pub, prices are moderate, but if you're after something really budget-friendly, it might feel a smidge on the higher side for everyday eats.

We’ve come here a few times now as we moved to the area around a year ago. Food is so good and such good value for money, always presented beautifully. Staff are so lovely and friendly always creating a nice atmosphere and friendly environment! We will be back :)
Went on Saturday morning, had an amazing big breakfast, very tasty and plentyful, staff are always polite and attentive, the atmosphere is good playing a great playlist of music, the place was a lot busier than normal but this didn't affect the wait time too much.
Excellent value for money, for some reason it was half price this time, that could explain why it was so busy.
A must try for a Saturday breakfast
I've used the services of The Stag for two memorial /funeral events. Both times they have been a pleasure to deal with making the process of booking easy, easing the stress of a difficult time.
We've used both the conservatory area and the main pub area (cordoned off) for the two events and found the environment perfect for the gathering sin terms of space and comfort. The food and hot drinks on arrival has been excellent too and well priced. Will definitely use them again.

‘Wandering Wednesday’ this week took Hubster Neil and I to ‘The Stag’ at Walton.
It’s been a good number of years since we were last there.
We decided not to have starters this week as it can make you very full indeed!
Neil had Steak in Guinness homemade pie, with chips, garden peas and thick rich gravy…..it was PACKED to the brim with big tender chunks of beef and covered with a light fluffy pastry…… Neil said he would definitely have it again.
I had a ‘Big Bird’ burger, a thick buttermilk, butterflied chicken breast, with crispy panko crumbs, it was on a bed of lettuce, the burger had a layer of melted cheese on top, followed by a hash brown, two thick rashers of bacon and BBQ sauce, all sandwiched between a large seeded brioche toasted bun….. held together with a wooded skewer! it also came with a side of homemade coleslaw…..
I upgraded my chips to potato Tots, I had mine salt and pepper style with peppers and onions…..it was all very tasty indeed and remained piping hot until the last bite….. I also would have this again.
The pub is Olde Worlde and very clean and tidy….. the staff who served us, Laura behind the bar and Wendy who was our server, both were very attentive, extremely polite, friendly but professional…..they are a credit to this establishment….
Thank you Ladies….
Would we return?…..
That’s a definite YES! xxx❤️
Great service from the lovely attentive staff. The Stag has always been a charming pub but it really looks stunning after all the renovations they’ve done in there. Lovely atmosphere and the food was amazing!
