About This Pub
Oh, what a treat The Union Rooms is – it's one of those Wetherspoon pubs that just hits the mark for a laid-back evening out. I have to say, the old building itself is charming, with that hidden sun-trap of a beer garden that's perfect for catching up with mates on a warm day. The staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which really adds to the relaxed atmosphere. And let's talk about the deals – you can snag a tasty curry or sticky chicken bowl with a craft beer for peanuts, and it's all served up quickly through the app, so no hanging about. On the flip side, it's a chain pub at heart, so if you're craving something a bit more bespoke or gourmet, it might not quite deliver that wow factor. Plus, it does get a tad crowded when the weather's nice, and the food, while hearty and hot, is pretty straightforward Wetherspoon fare. All in all, it's a solid choice for us lot looking for an affordable, no-fuss pint and a good natter – I'd pop in again without a second thought if I'm in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The historic building and that hidden beer garden are absolute gems – perfect for soaking up the sun on a rare nice day in Batley.
-
Staff are always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
Incredible value for money with affordable meals and drinks; you can get a cracking curry and a pint for next to nothing.
-
Service is spot on with the app – orders come quickly and everything's piping hot, which is a real win for a quick bite.
-
A great selection of proper ales and beers, served at just the right temperature, ideal for a relaxing chat without any blaring music.
Cons
-
As a Wetherspoon, it's your typical chain pub, so it might not have that unique local charm you're after if you've been to a few already.
-
The food is solid but nothing fancy – it's good and hearty, yet some might find it a bit standard compared to more upscale spots.
-
It can get busy at times, especially in the beer garden on sunny days, which might mean a wait or a bit of a squeeze for a table.

I was impressed with the exterior of this building has i walked in.
After a look around, i settled in the impressive beer garden and ordered via the app. I enjoyed a good Korean chicken sticky bowl with my favourite craft beer: Hazy Jane.
After enjoying my meal and drink i had a look around and enjoyed a Jaipur. All in all a good visit, food and drinks for around £12.
Would go again.
A lovely old building now housing an extremely spacious, good value pub with a hidden sun-trap of a rear beer garden. Very friendly, welcoming staff. A relaxing pub with no music & a friendly, chatty atmosphere.
Didn’t have the food but great service, array of proper ales, beer at the correct temperature too, no complaints!
