About This Pub

Ah, The Ugly Duck in Paisley – it's one of those places that really grows on you once you step inside. I have to say, the staff are an absolute gem; they're so friendly and on point, making sure you're looked after without hovering, which is just what you want for a relaxed evening. The food's got some proper winners too, like those mouthwatering starters and inventive burgers that leave you wanting seconds, and don't even get me started on the secret beer garden – it's a hidden treat for soaking up the sun with a cold drink in hand. Plus, the karaoke on weekends turns it into a proper party, with some surprisingly talented performers that keep the energy high. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; I've heard a few tales of mains turning up cold or running out of popular dishes, and the dessert options are a bit slim, which is a shame after tucking into the mains. Weekdays can feel a touch quiet compared to the buzz on Fridays and Saturdays, so if you're planning a midweek meet-up, you might want to temper your expectations. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out in Paisley – worth giving it a go if you're in the area, but keep those little inconsistencies in mind for a balanced experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and make you feel right at home, with quick and attentive service that really adds to the vibe.
  • The food has some cracking options, like those tasty starters and unique burgers that are sure to get your taste buds going.
  • They've got a brilliant beer garden that's perfect for chilling out with a drink on a nice day.
  • Karaoke nights on Fridays and Saturdays are a real highlight, with some talented singers making for a fun and lively atmosphere.
  • It's a great spot for a casual night out, with a wide range of drinks and cocktails to suit all tastes.
Cons
  • Food quality can be inconsistent, like when mains arrive cold, which puts a bit of a dampener on things.
  • Not much choice for desserts, which feels like a missed opportunity after enjoying the rest of the meal.
  • It can feel understaffed on quieter evenings, leading to slower service that might not live up to the hype.
  • Some popular items run out quickly, such as burgers on busy nights, which is frustrating if that's what you fancy.
  • Weekdays might lack the same energy as weekends, making it feel a tad flat if you're after a buzzing night.

Place was ok food, starter great , main cold and not much of a choice for deserts . There seemed to be only one staff member front of house and she was great . Maybe better at weekend but Thursday was a washout for us . Had heard good things too. Don't know if I'd try again but not at moment

Visited for drinks only, nice beer garden. Staff are all great, especially Lewis who made us feel very welcome and got us settled in a nice clean table in the beer garden, 5 stars for Lewis.

Husband ordered burger, no burger left 7pm on a Saturday night, bit disappointed however, he had chicken burger instead, I had chicken fajitas, we had pulled pork loaded fries, brownie&ice cream for desert, omg all amazing, we were served by Ben, i think, who was attentive without being intrusive, polite and an asset to the mucky duck, great example of customer service. Food was best I've had in a long time and very reasonably priced
