About This Pub

Oh, The Turks Head Inn – it's one of those hidden gems in Gloucester that really warms the cockles of your heart. From the reviews, it sounds like a proper friendly spot where you can pop in for a chat, enjoy some decent tunes from various eras, and feel genuinely welcomed by the staff and even other visitors. The drinks are reasonably priced with some lovely ales and ciders on offer, and the quirky decor, like walls plastered with beer labels, gives it that extra bit of character. It's also brilliant if you're out with your dog, as they roll out the welcome mat with treats and all. Sitting outside on a glorious day adds to the appeal, making it ideal for a relaxed catch-up. But, let's be honest, it's not without its downsides – the seating isn't the comfiest, and the small size can make things a bit squished if it gets busy, so you might want to time your visit right. Plus, with it only opening a few days a week, you'll need to check ahead to avoid disappointment. All in all, it's a cracking little pub for a casual pint or two, especially if you're after good value and a homely feel, but it might not be the place for a big group or if you're seeking a wider drink selection.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home
  • Affordable drinks with a solid selection of ales and ciders to choose from
  • Quirky decor that adds a fun, unique touch to the place
  • Dog-friendly setup with treats available, perfect for those with four-legged companions
  • Outdoor seating that's great for enjoying a pint on a sunny day
Cons
  • Seating can be a bit uncomfortable and limited, which might not suit longer visits
  • The pub's small size means it can feel quite cosy – or crowded – at times
  • Only open a few days a week, so it's not always an option for spontaneous plans
  • Selection of beers is on the smaller side, which might disappoint if you're after variety

My boyfriend took me to this pub yesterday as he'd been thr week before & thought I'd like it. Sat outside at the front as the weather was glorious. Great atmosphere in the bar, decent music from all eras & several staff & customers chatted to us, making up feel relaxed & welcome. The drinks were fantastic, I drink cider & there was a gorgeous & very impressive choice of them, I had a Cloudy Rhubarb then an Elderflower one, both beautiful. We will definitely be visiting again.

Quirky place with lots to see. Small range of beers and some lovely ciders too. Dogs welcome, which is always nice and even some treats available. Seating not very comfortable and fairly limited, but the small size of the place is one of the redeeming features.

Visited Saturday 1st Feb. On a day trip to Gloucester, I found this wonderful pub whilst exploring the city centre. It was so good that I visited twice. During the afternoon, and again an hour before I was due to depart on the train home. Upon entering was greeting with a range of three beers, one golden, one amber, and one dark beer. In the afternoon visit, I had a pint and a half of Buntingford Oatmeal Stout. The beer was served in excellent condition. It must of been a fair way through the cask, as when I returned in the evening it had sadly gone. After a few hours of exploring Gloucester, returned for another pint and a half of Glastonbury 'Black At Yer' Stout. Once again, the beer was in perfect condition. 5* on both occasions. What I like about here is how friendly people were, and the excellent prices for a pint of well served cask beer - £3.80 a pint. Very few places serve beer at this price nowadays, obviously barring Wetherspoons. If you are in the Gloucester area, I highly recommending paying this pub a visit. Will definitely be making a return here, when I'm next in Gloucester, or passing through! Just beware it is cash only, however that is not a major inconvenience when maintaining a friendly and very well priced establishment.

Very quaint bar, nothing special but enjoyable. Staff were friendly and polite. Few tap beers and real ales available at great prices. Benches for seating with wooden and metal trunks for tables, amazing idea. Walls covered with beer logo labels. Wheelchair friendly but tight as it's a small bar. Down to earth sort of place Beer was good. Very nice visit.

If u like cask beer or ale then u love this place. Cheep but nice quality drinks at low prices. Even service is good but great for locals. Nice atmosphere, specially love the colourful walls. Just next to dock in high street. Plenty of seating inside n outside too.
