About This Pub

Ah, The Tram Depot – it's one of those places in Cambridge that just feels like a proper local haunt, tucked away in the city centre with all its historic charm from the old tramway days. I love how they've got this cracking selection of cask and craft beers that really cater to anyone who appreciates a good pint; it's perfect for settling in with friends for a chat or even hosting a little event, where the staff shine by going above and beyond to make everything run smoothly. The outdoor terrace is a absolute winner on a sunny afternoon, and being dog-friendly adds that extra homely feel. On the flip side, though, the food's a mixed bag – while the sharing plates are designed to pair nicely with the drinks, some have found them a tad greasy or just not up to scratch, like that house coleslaw that's got a few people steering clear. It's got a solid 4.2 rating overall, but recent chats suggest it might not be the best spot if you're really food-focused, as things can vary. All in all, I'd say it's worth swinging by for the atmosphere and brews, but perhaps keep it light on the eats or pair it with something from elsewhere to keep everyone happy.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely brilliant, with a fantastic range of cask and craft ales, ciders, and even cocktails that make it a real treat for any beer enthusiast.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, full of character from its historic roots as a tramway building, and it's a lovely spot for a relaxed chat with mates.
  • Staff are top-notch, always going the extra mile – especially for events or private dos, where they've been praised for their helpfulness and attention to detail.
  • It's dog-friendly, which is a nice touch if you're popping in with your furry friend, and the outdoor terrace is perfect for soaking up the sun with a cold pint.
  • Great for socialising, with sharing plates and pub classics that encourage a bit of communal dining in the heart of Cambridge.
Cons
  • Some of the food can be a bit hit-and-miss; a few folks have mentioned it's overly greasy, like the coleslaw that didn't quite live up to expectations.
  • The menu's sociable sharing plates are meant to complement the drinks, but they've been described as fairly ordinary at times, so it might not wow you if you're after something special.
  • There are occasional inconsistencies, as one review noted improvements over time, suggesting things can vary depending on when you visit.
  • While the overall vibe is spot on, a couple of recent experiences hinted at service or food not being quite as polished, which could dampen the fun on a bad day.

just got to say how fantastic everyone was who was working on Saturday night. Ellie, Becca and Caitlin decorated the venue for our Hen do and the service was excellent. Nothing was any trouble. The food was delicious and all came out delivered together and was hot! They even helped source our entertainment. We all had a great night. What a team, please send them all our hearts felt thanks 10/10 👍🏻 Tina

Cannot speak more highly of this venue. We had a private event, with a drag performance, three course meal and drinks package all organised by the venue. They went above and beyond to make the event unforgettable. They provided a private, beautifully decorated room, welcome drinks on arrival, delicious food, and organised a truly fabulous performance by the incredible Mia Mann. A huge thank you to Caitlin, Ella, and Becca for a brilliant evening!

Please do not go here if you are expecting a decent meal, absolutely everything is swimming in grease, and how they can call it house coleslaw which looks as if it has been run over several times by a tractor. Avoid avoid avoid!

I am much improving my previous review here (which was about three stars overall). Is this place under a new management? Their chips were super crispy, and the burger was a very nice one. Keep this up! Please! A huge improvement since my last visit a couple of years ago. Minuses are minor, I really don't want onion rings on my plate unless asked for. And please, give me more greens. A small salad or something. Or at least an option for a salad.
