About This Pub
You know, when I popped into The Burleigh Arms, I was really impressed by how they've taken this old 1820s gem and turned it into something special – it's got that warm, welcoming feel with a rich history, but the real star is the food. The chef's seasonal menu is packed with flavour, using the best local ingredients to create dishes that are both innovative and comforting, like a cracking Sunday roast or those delightful crab arancini that left me wanting seconds. The team there are so friendly and attentive, making every visit feel personal, whether it's for a birthday treat or just a nice meal out. On the flip side, it's not the cheapest spot in Cambridge, so you might want to save it for when you're in the mood to splash out a bit, and do check the opening times for food because they can be a bit restrictive. All in all, it's a brilliant choice if you're after a step up from the usual pub grub, but it might not be ideal for a quick, no-fuss drink. I'd say give it a go if you're in the area – you won't be disappointed!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious, with creative and well-balanced dishes that showcase top-quality ingredients and seasonal British flavours – it's a real treat for the taste buds.
-
The service is spot-on and warm, with staff going the extra mile for special occasions, like offering complimentary drinks that make you feel right at home.
-
It has a lovely, cozy atmosphere in a historic setting, blending that classic pub charm with a touch of fine dining elegance, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
-
Featured on Top50GastroPubs.com, it's a standout spot for quality meals, with highlights like the crab arancini and Sunday roasts that keep you coming back for more.
Cons
-
It's on the pricey side for what you'd expect from a pub, so it might stretch the budget if you're just after a casual pint rather than a full meal.
-
Food service has specific hours, like closing early on some days, which could limit your options if you're planning a spontaneous visit.
-
It leans more towards fine dining than a traditional pub vibe, so if you're in the mood for something laid-back and informal, it might feel a bit too polished.

We had a fantastic meal last night for my mums birthday. A card and complimentary drink added to the experience. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish was very well balanced leaving us wanting more. Crab Arancino delicious, a lovely crab flavour throughout, Stone bass tartare was a spring triumph, lamp rump with shoulder Boulangere just the right level of decadence packed with flavour and the fish cake with bisque, pepperonata and bell pepper marmalade, again, eaten all together so well balanced. I got home and checked what was on the lunch and bar menu. What a brilliant job they’ve done with this pub, I can’t wait to come back. Worth noting we had very good service from Angelina too. Keep it up guys 💪🏼
Fine Dining Pub
Writing reviews for the Cambridge pubs therefore entered this pub.
It's a pub that separates the bar(with TV)and restaurant area(without TV).
It was expensive as a pub but reasonably priced as a fine dining restaurant.
Everything was well prepared with quality ingredients. Prepared in perfection. At the same time your stomach would be full after the food.
The staff and chef was very nice and friendly. Environment and toilets were clean.
I can't get anything to fault.
But I would think that it's more of a proper restaurant than a traditional pub.
Unlike other fine dining restaurants, it's a casual environment. No dress code required.
We had an incredible meal by Kareem and the team at the Burliegh Arms! We had the celeriac on the chef’s recommendation as it was one the best dishes I’ve ever eaten. You can tell Kareem puts a lot of heart and care into each of his dishes and the quality of the ingredients is second to none.
The staff are attentive without being overbearing and allowed us to take our time with our food and drinks so we didn’t feel rushed to leave.
In my opinion, for the quality of the food you’re getting this is one of the best value restaurants in Cambridge. Overall I can’t recommend it enough!
Lovely pub with great cozy vibes. Great service from the waitress Z. Food was amazing, best Sunday roast I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend the pork belly! Ordered a mocktail which was also fantastic. Highly recommend and can’t wait to go back.
The Burleigh Arms has recently come under new management and got a stellar new chef, so I decided to give it a chance. Given its previous reputation as an overpriced pub, I was very sceptical but was persuaded by a friend to give it a go. It was so worth it!
The new chef makes it into one of the top foodie places in Cambridge, especially within its very reasonable (£30 for a set menu) price range. The chef combines Caribbean, Southeast Asian and European influences to create some unexpected and flavoursome combinations. We were fortunate enough to be offered an additional starter from his current design phase, and now I can't wait to have the smoked fish and avocado mix on the regular menu. Even something as simple as chicken or pulled pork are well executed and/or offer a unique twist (like the pulled pork compressed into a patty).
Would absolutely recommend it if you're looking for a nice dining experience!
