About This Pub

Ah, The Town & County Club – it's one of those hidden gems in Rugby that I've heard great things about from mates who've popped in. From what folks are saying, it's got this really inviting atmosphere where you can kick back and enjoy a pint without any fuss. The real ales are a standout; they're well-kept and come at prices that won't break the bank, with rotating guest options that keep things interesting. It's not just about the drinks, though – there's live music on the last Sunday afternoon of the month, and you can join in with dominoes or skittles if you're in the mood for a bit of fun. The staff are proper welcoming, making it easy for newcomers to feel at home, even if it's technically a members' club. On the flip side, the opening times seem a bit all over the place, mostly centred around Sundays, so it might not be ideal if you're after a spontaneous mid-week catch-up. Plus, with not much buzz lately, it could feel quieter than expected, and some have mentioned it's a small spot that might not have the same polish as flashier venues. All in all, if you're after a genuine, affordable night out with good company and cracking beers, it's worth a try – just go in with realistic expectations and you might end up making it your local!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's a cosy, welcoming spot where you can relax and chat with friendly folks.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of real ales and guest beers, like Wye Valley Bitter and Church End Gravedigger, always well-kept and at great prices.
  • It's visitor-friendly, even if it's a members' club, so you can pop in without committing straight away, and there's a real community feel with live music and games like dominoes and skittles.
  • The bar staff are top-notch, making everyone feel right at home with their warm welcomes and efficient service.
Cons
  • The hours can be a bit patchy and confusing, with most listings for Sundays only, which might mean it's not as reliable for mid-week visits.
  • It seems like things have quietened down lately, with only one recent review in the last six months, so it might not be as buzzing as it once was.
  • As a smaller club, it could feel a tad outdated or limited in options compared to bigger pubs, and you might need to join after a few goes, which is only £5 a year but still an extra step.
  • One or two reviews suggest it's just 'okay' rather than outstanding, so it might not wow everyone straight off.

A lovely little club, you do not need to be a member to visit, however, a few visits and it's only right that you join (£5) a year. The real ale is the best kept in town, they also stock a selection of gins. The prices are low (to be expected from a members club) and the company is convivial. A hidden gem.

A small, friendly club which serves well kept real ales, lager, cider, wines and spirits. There is an upstairs function room which holds 60 people and is available to non-members. There are active skittles and dart teams and regular quiz nights. A great little club and also Camra Club of the Year 2015!
