About This Pub
Ah, The Three Tuns – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a breath of fresh air, doesn't it? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that classic, homely charm where the staff go out of their way to make sure you're looked after, almost like you're popping round to a mate's for a catch-up. The food really steals the show; folks rave about the stunning roasts and delightful desserts, and it's clear they're putting in the effort with things like sharing platters that are both filling and well-presented. Plus, with quiz nights, live music, and a nice garden to enjoy, it's got that community spirit that makes you want to come back for more. On the flip side, though, the menu doesn't offer a huge selection, so if you're in the mood for something specific, you might be out of luck. And let's be honest, closing up as early as 3 PM isn't ideal for those late-night chats over a pint. Overall, it's a solid spot for a relaxed afternoon or a catch-up with friends, especially if you're local to Hemel Hempstead – just keep those points in mind for a top-notch visit!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They've got a cracking old-school atmosphere that's just like a cosy home away from home, with that proper pub vibe we all love.
-
The food is a real highlight – think delicious roasts, tasty sharing platters, and even desserts like Eton mess that hit the spot every time.
-
There's always something going on, like quiz nights, live music, and afternoon teas, which keeps things lively and fun.
-
The garden is a lovely spot to relax in, especially on a sunny day, and the Sunday roasts offer great value for a hearty meal.
Cons
-
The menu can be a bit limited, so if you're after a wide range of options, you might find yourself wanting more variety.
-
It seems to close fairly early, around 3 PM typically, which could put a dampener on plans for a proper evening out.
-
Without a website or much online presence, it's tricky to check out the latest details or book ahead, which might be a hassle for some.

Had a great Saturday afternoon at the pub, the highlight being a delicious ragu served up by the guys from the ‘Pasta la Vista’ food van. Will definitely be back!
Lovely proper old school pub. The Management are always putting things on, from quiz nights, live music, afternoon teas etc etc.
Friendly staff, always make you feel welcome.
Nice garden to sit in too.
Sunday roasts look great value for money.
A real old fashioned pub. We were travelling and met friends there for lunch. We were made very welcome, staff were friendly and helpful.
Menu was limited. We had sharing platters which were good quality and filling and nicely presented.
Would visit again if in the area.
Such a lovely little pub with a real friendly atmosphere. Staff were very attentive and service was great. There were 10 of us and we all had the roast, they all came out piping hot. The roast was stunning, cannot fault it at all.
The eton mess for dessert was so good.
Fantastic experience and will definitely be returning. Thanks Mary and all your staff
Typical homely atmosphere it’s not a public house but more of a home the landlady is more of a mum than a landlady 🤣 all the staff are very attentive and can’t do enough to make sure everything is perfect, keep it up there’s not many old school pubs left like this 🥰👌
