About This Pub

Ah, The Three Sisters – it's one of those Edinburgh gems that really knows how to throw a good bash, tucked away in the heart of Cowgate with its historic brewery vibes and endless party spirit. From what I've gathered from the buzz around, it's brilliant for soaking up the atmosphere during major sports events or enjoying a cheeky cocktail in their sunny courtyard – I mean, who could resist those swing seats and picnic benches on a rare Scottish sunny day? The drinks are spot on, with rave reviews for their Bloody Mary and fun masterclasses that turn a night out into something special, and the staff seem like absolute legends, going out of their way to make sure everyone has a great time, even if you're running late. But, let's be honest, it's not perfect every time; on quieter evenings, it might feel a bit underwhelming, with just some acoustic tunes instead of the full-on party, and you might bump into groups more interested in studying than socialising, which can throw off the vibe if you're after non-stop fun. Overall, it's a solid spot for a laugh with friends, as long as you pick your visit wisely – I'd say it's worth checking out for the highs, just keep expectations in check for those off nights.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing, especially for big events like sports screenings or live music – it's got that non-stop party vibe that makes you want to stick around with mates.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, including standout cocktails like the Bloody Mary, and the outdoor courtyard with swing seats and picnic benches is a proper sunny day winner.
  • The staff are top-notch; from the cocktail masterclasses to handling late arrivals, they're fun, confident, and really make the experience memorable.
  • It's got loads of space and variety, with comfy booths in the main bar for relaxing and watching the action, plus options for private hires and special events that cater to groups.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit hit or miss depending on when you go – a quiet Monday night might not live up to the hype, with just some background music rather than the full party atmosphere.
  • Sometimes it's packed with students or groups studying, which might not be what you're after if you're looking for a lively pint with friends, as it can dampen the energy on off-peak times.
  • Prices are moderate, but if you're expecting something fancy, it might come across as a tad basic in spots, especially compared to more upscale spots in Edinburgh.

Hen party with a group of 9, we did the cocktail masterclass with Colin, and he was incredible. He ran the session with great fun and confidence and was the highlight of our evening. Highly recommend!

Nice bar, good priced beer, huge outdoor area with big screens for sports games. At 3pm on a Thursday it was mostly lots of students in there studying.

Visited The Three Sisters on a quiet Monday night and had a rather mixed experience. The highlight of the evening was definitely the acoustic guitar music, which added a lovely, soothing ambiance to the place. The musician was talented and played a great selection of songs that perfectly suited the relaxed vibe. However, the pub was quite empty, which was a bit surprising. While it made for a peaceful and intimate setting, it also lacked the lively atmosphere you might expect from a popular pub. If you're looking for a bustling night out, Monday might not be the best time to visit. Overall, if you enjoy good music and a quiet drink, The Three Sisters on a Monday night could be just what you need. But if you're after a more energetic and social experience, you might want to try visiting on a different night.
