About This Pub
Ah, The Three Crowns in Barrow upon Soar is one of those hidden gems that mixes the best of a classic pub with some seriously tasty Indian cuisine – it's like stumbling upon a warm hug on a chilly evening. From the reviews I've seen, the food really steals the show; folks rave about the authentic Punjabi dishes, like spicy madras or butter chicken, all made with fresh ingredients that deliver a proper flavour punch. Pair that with a cold beer, and you've got a winning combo that's left many smiling. The team behind the bar and kitchen are spot on too, offering quick and cheerful service that makes you feel right at home. On the downside, it can turn into a bit of a racket in the bar area, especially on weekends, so if you're hoping for a relaxed catch-up, you might want to snag a table in the quieter spots. And while it's generally a solid choice, a few have mentioned teething issues with new management, which could mean the experience isn't always spot-on. All things considered, it's worth popping in if you're nearby – just go with the flow and you'll likely have a cracking time.

We had a prawn puri and tempura king prawn starter, followed by the meat thali to share. More than enough food for two and it was all delicious. Service was quick and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Great value for money too.
Great indian food, but we were seated in the bar on a Saturday night, and it was so loud we could barely hear each other talk. I would go back, but only if we were seated in the restaurant area.
Excellent new Punjabi menu! Leicester has some of the best Indian food in the country and normally I go the golden mile to get my fix. How lucky am I to have the crowns on my doorstep.
The food is fab. I had the chicken madras with a chilli cheese naan. My wife went for butter chicken and peshwari naan. Mixed grill to start was excellent. Looking forward to seeing how the menu grows!

**Edited previous 5 star review due to being under new management. Jan 24.
I wasn’t going to leave a review however I responded to a friend with an honest account of my experience last night on one of the pubs Facebook posts and they deleted the comment. I feel it’s only right that negative comments are seen as well as the positive.
The food was beautiful, I can’t fault it however…
We had a table for 2 booked for 7pm, we arrived at the same time as another table for 2 who also booked for 7pm and we were met with “Sorry there aren’t any tables at the moment would you mind waiting”
We ordered a drink and waited to then be told by another member of staff “There aren’t any tables” and “There’s not a lot I can do about it at the moment”
In hindsight we should have left at this point but didn’t, we got seated at around 7.30 and only because I suggested they move a table as a table for 2 were sat at a table for 4 of 2 tables pushed together. We were meant to be table of 3 but my mum was unwell and it’s a good job because she wouldn’t have fit at the table lol.
We were then left with no offer of a menu, and ended up getting our own cutlery.
In the end we were given one menu to share between us.. and the other table that came in at the same time as us also had to share our menu.
When someone finally came to take our order we had been there near on an hour. During the experience I received the wrong drink, the wrong curry and one poppadom between 2 of us.. we had to ask for the other one.
I do want to stress that the food is absolutely wonderful however the whole ordeal left me stressed when it was meant to be a relaxing evening. We did voice our concerns and I didn’t accept the offer to change my curry as we had already waited far too long and it was getting late but I was incredibly disappointed. We also turned down a free drink because this wasn’t offered until the very end and after 15/20 minutes of waiting for the card machine to work and to be honest we were ready to leave a long time before that so didn’t want to stay.
Also I’m not sure if they have a dessert menu as this was never offered…
The 2 women next to us had an even worse experience. I had to ask for their poppadoms for them and when their food eventually came to the table they had their starters and mains arrive together with no plates or cutlery. Once the busy period died down another table of around 6 men joined and they got their food before them!
The excuse given at the time was “it was extremely busy” and it turned out they had given the tables away to walk ins. This to me is an unacceptable excuse and the only reason we stayed was to give it a chance and it was too late notice to book somewhere else.
The experience we had means we won’t be returning for food which is a great shame because it is delicious and it’s one’s of our locals.
I am only sharing my experience because the pub is deleting comments on social media and I think it’s only fair people are able to see a true reflection of the pub and are not tricked in to thinking this is a 10/10 restaurant/pub because it’s far from it (I really didn’t want that to be my opinion but I have to be honest)
